hello, I ran into this page by great fortune I think, and now I'd like to post my question here and I really hope that someone can give me an answer...
I am Turkish but I was born and raised in Germany. I now finished my studies in English and Social studies at the university and am preparing now for the first Staatsexamen. In the past my aim was to become an English teacher in Germany but due to some change in my privat life I want to emigrate to Turkey after having passed my first Staatsexamen. Unfortunately to being able to pass the second Staatsexamen and become a teacher I have to finish a period of practical training which would take me another 24 months. But I don't want to do that, because I want to be in Turkey as soon as possible.
So now my question is, am I able to become a teacher in Turkey without having passed the second Staatsexamen? Is it possible to become a teacher by only having passed the first Staatsexamen and the TOEFL?
I would be endlessly glad, if someone could give me some information about this issue.
Thank you very much in advance.

hi,

it depends on where you want to work private schools or with the schools with government... in private language schools here it is easy to be engineer native english ppl can do it so easily here.. i really dont know anything about that examinations you talk about here... but if that second exam will make you not to take your certificates or diplomas etc.. from your institute or faculty or school... that cause some much problems.. as for toefl.. that only shows that you know english i dont think it will make affect on ppl here to be honest... becoz you know teaching needs skills and talent... etc. if you want to find a job easily and without getting much headaches and cries..
i recommend you to get your DIPLOMA
good luck

You can work in private schools and some university if you have a university degree on any field and have also a certificate on teaching English. Of course a bechalors degree on English would be great but if you don't have a degree on English then you need either a tefl, celta, delta or tesol certificate.

There are few different certificates. I think the most common ones are tefl (not toefl), celta.

For tefl jobs in Turkia check this page:
http://www.tefl.com/jobs/job.html?jo_id=20745

Also have a look on this thread in Turkish:

Or ICELT...

If you apply to Bilkent University as a native speaker all you need is some understanding of ELT theory and they will provide you with ICELT training.

Mind you - you might not like it there!

Is there anyone who studies on Istanbul Universitesi or just can open the IU pages in E$nglish???
I need the ECTS Guide of Department of History of Art and Dept. of Sociology (Faculty of Letters) and Dept. of Journalism (Faculty of Communication)- I need to know ECTS points for particular courses from that pages but they just don't open!
If there is anyone who knows the courses, theirs codes and ECTS points or just can open the pages - please, send me printsceens from thet peges or write to me about those courses!!!
Please, this is urgent and although I have written more than 15 e-mails both in Turkish and English to Istanbul University, Erasmus coordinators of particular departments, nobody gave me answers (how typical...) Please, if you know something, write to me!!!

Greetings Seticio,

Have you checked these pages? Is the information unsufficient on these pages?

http://www.istanbul.edu.tr/english/socrates/ects.htm
http://www.istanbul.edu.tr/eng/ee/erasmus/index_en_guide.html

Maybe you could give them a call. Or e-mail them but I think calling might be a better option if it is urgent. Contact details are here:
