There are many Jews that live and work in the şişli area of istanbul. As far as I see, they get along just fine.

There're turkish jews that are native to Turkey, have been living for hundreds of years, but most of them migrated to İsrael later, but still there's a jewish community continuing living in Turkey particularly in İstanbul around a few ten thousands I think. They have their sinagogs, and practise their religion. And I've watched a documentary, most of them have no particular problems.

I dont see any problem for the jews living in Turkey, I have many jewish friends here...

If you start a live in Turkey, the only problem you would deal is just getting used to the new life style and surrounding... Because there are lots of foreigners and people from other religions living in Turkey...

Hadar I would take these "official" comments very lightly. Ask yourself how good the relationship is between muslims and jews (please feel free to refer to the Quran and see what the prophet Mohammad says about jews) and then ask yourself how many Turks are muslims - then draw your own conclusions

If you are still in doubt, please let me know and I can provide you with links to threads on this website where Turkish members have given their very frank and candid opinions on Israel and Jews

We as a Turk can honestly say that, we have no problems with people and what they believe... If a couple of sick people say some nonsense... you cannot generalize..

This is was the first point... And secondly... i think i am the one who lives here and knows the reality better here...

the opinion about the Israel is consisting what governments do here...

its like greece and turkey... politics are bad... but society adore eachother...

And Hadar, dont hesitate about anything... just come and see by your own...

Yes, me too as a turk, I can assure you that Turkey is one of the best countries for jews. Even in europe there's much more hatred towards jews. That's why most muslim countries are angry about Turkey being so friendly with jews. The things some turks says consider rather some of the acts of the state of Israel, but let's look at the reality, Turkey and Israel get along really well, and they have very close relations. In Turkey and in Ottoman Empire there has never been an antisemitic movement.
As for the turkish jews, just ask them, how life is for them, and how they are accepted into the society. Me, too I know some jews in my university, or in my surrounding, I have never seen someone behave them differently.

If you know french, listen to this reportage with Ishak Alaton, a turkish jew, the owner of one of the biggest turkish companies. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YhzMeQMxpxY&feature=related

BTW I heard that Turkey is the number one holiday destination of Israel jews.

how many Turks are muslims

In combination with your post about Muslim-Turks & alcohol, this statement doesn't make sense It means you think the majority of Turkish muslims do not think and act accordign to the book, and now, suddenly, you tell her to look at what the book says because Turkish people are Muslim.

My personal opinion anyway is that in Turkey it really differs from region to region, but I don't think religious discrimination is any more dangerous than, for example, in the Netherlands.

And it's always better to be Jewish than to be an atheist lol

It's most of the time good to look much younger after an age! In every way! It was funny once here in Lyon, they were stopping people on the street to ask for money for a kind of organisation, and one stopped me even if I tried to avoid him and asked me if I was a major, I said "no" not expecting him to believe but indeed he believed! he said "then we cannot accept money from you."!

I should say they get on very well in Istanbul. There is the big Jewish school there, for one thing--Jews there take turkish names--so no Sam goldbergs or Joshua Finlesteins. Jews blend in.

Also, when I worked there, we took our school to a class blowing factory just outside Istanbul. They had a special program for students to make glass plates.

In the workshop, learning glass blowing, were a number of israeli soldiers. Outside in the cafe there was an Israeli General sitting having a cup of coffee, chatting to some Turkish women.

Quite what was going on there was something of a mystery.

But it at least shows they are on good terms
