What is the point here? Do you want people to say…YAY FOR KEITH, he supports equal rights? Or to call certain members to be banished? Or is it yet another diatribe from the same old crew.
Really….what is your point?

How liberal was the idea that it is natural for women to stay at home as they are the ones giving birth?

Still, I´m tempted to agree with you that you can´t call yourself liberal if you don´t accept other people´s choices in all aspects of life - be it careers, clothes, music or what they watch. (As long as it´s legal of course)

agree.in liberal thinking we should respect other persons choices and dont call them wrong.of course it is dissapointing that in working places women get smaller salaries even they usually are working more hard than men.

And I have been criticised for my views as close-minded and hypocritical. All of you who think you are free thinkers are only tolerent of people who think like you. How exactly is that liberal???

Maybe you don´t see that some of your comments are a little sexist?

EVERYONE thinks they are free thinkers - have you ever met someone who says "I am very close minded"

Unfortunately we are unable to see ourselves as others do.

Sorry Keith, but on the one hand you say we should have choice and on the other you say you support traditional family "values". Frankly, listening to a man who says that he supports the traditional family, with mother at home, cooking and looking after the children, is stomach churning.

Yes, I support the nuclear family. Ultimtaely, that is what is going to work for me. This is my CHOICE.
But never did I say this is how everyone should live. As I have said for the millionth time, I support any womans´s right to live and raise her family in the way she sees fit.
If you don´t want to be a stay at home mom (or a mom at all), thats your business. But there is no need to ridicule women who also prefer this lifestyle.

I am not saying "be a feminist" because it just seems such an outdated thing to say, to be honest. Is it wrong to assume that everyone will consider women have the same opportunities as men?

I really don´t understand why you can´t agree - maybe that is my problem. It seems perfectly acceptable to condemn racists, but you are considered an extremist if you condemn sexists.

Your posts on this subject always make me sad Libralady - because everything you enjoy now, your career, even the right to walk into a pub and not be condemned for it, is because of women who would not just accept the "status quo" and fought for equal rights, despite being ridiculed and insulted. You really surprise me

Forget the word "feminism" and just think "choice". I couldn´t care less if women want to take on traditional roles as housewives and mothers - it is their choice. What I really detest is when women defend that decision by condeming those who DON´T do the same as them and intimate that their children will suffer as a result and that their marriages are less happy, they are going against biology by having careers or by swapping roles of primary carer with their partner. These smug women fail to appreciate that the many freedoms they enjoy, even as housewives and mothers, are SOLELY DUE to the women they despise.

I don´t remember ever seeing anyone here condemning or saying they despise women who choose to have a career out of the home.

However I do see too many women who do choose to have a more "traditional" role are marginalized and made to feel somehow inadequate because of their choices.

In today´s world we have more choices than anytime in the recent past. Women can spend a great deal of time at home and still have a career via telecommuting.

What I have done is question choices, that is not tantamount to condemnation.

While of course a "man farm" is, hmmmm.... ... inappropriate, it is not comparable to a "woman farm" joke. Because in a system where "woman farms" are a reality (brothels), and women do have a lower social status, and where making fun of women is daily broadcasted by media, and where many kinds of violence against women are commonplace, when one makes fun of women, one is making fun of the class that is oppressed and doesn´t have a public voice. Making fun of men, by women, on the other hand, is like making fun of the upper class, which is safe and secure from any injustices done to them by women anyway.

What continues to amaze me is that it is always the same people that target others and then complain when they receive nastygrams back...

Who´s complaining keith?

Cat, I have to say that you have been involved in many of these jokes in the past so now for you to say it is inappropriate.....seems a bit like you are just trying to placate some members.

Well, I really meant it in an abstract way. Theoretically, it is wrong to villify any group of people, but in practice I think it is not as bad to make fun of men, as it is (especially for men) to make fun of women in certain ways (I´m saying "in certain ways", because there are some things about women that are quite right to make fun of). Maybe ´inappropriate´ was a wrong choice of word. I don´t think of course there is anything wrong with your jokes.

Well, actually cat,i find myself not understanding well, having some jokes never harm in a limit but that men farm thing, yes i find it inappropriate
Will you accept same concept if it is a women farm ?!
İ guess i wont
And because no man complained that would make it appropriate ?!
Should we wait till they complain and then we start to say yes thats not appropriate ?!!!

You can go ahead and say that it´s inappropriate, but I don´t see why they shouldn´t be allowed to make that joke. Most people won´t find it inappropriate. What did they say? That they want a "man farm" of hairless men? Is that so horrible?

Cat its not about deleting or not deleting, obviously nothing said here needs to be deleted, the discussion here was if its appropriate to talk that way,or not for both men and women
As you said,it seems appropriate to some, and not to others
And as i am from that others part,i made myself clear about it,so i rest my case.

And my hairiness is being mentioned again and again..
My hairiness is a medical condition and not MY fault!!

You are quite wrong...here is exactly what I wrote...(not said)..

"Women are not men, they are different. Here we are begining to find other ways to to do things. Women don´t best fit into the male work modes. Look for new ways to utilize the talents of your women, rather than trying to fit them into the male work mold. "

Then later I wrote this reply in response to a post from Handsom....

"As for me saying women don´t fit in to mens work modes, I believe that scientific research that has shown women and men are different, otherwise there would be only one sex, you know? What I do propose is finding, looking into what makes females unique and different, and then utilizing that knowledge. "

You know, until we become all unisex, I´ll stick by my post.

I find it incredible you have a difficult time realizing males and females are different.

Actually, Alameda, science has not concluded ANYTHING about mental differences between men and women. The only difference there is, is the one who gives birth to children. All the "information" about men and women being so much different is more of speculation then real knowledge and also, it is completely disregarding the fact that boys and girls are raised completely differently from day 0. You know, only 20 years ago they had scientific proof that girls should not run because their uterus will go to their heads and kill them.

I did not say mental difference! Note, males have a higher amount of testosterone, with that goes a whole lot of other things....like body mass.

"In both men and women, testosterone plays a key role in health and well-being as well as in sexual functioning. Examples include enhanced libido, increased energy, increased production of red blood cells and protection against osteoporosis. On average, an adult human male body produces about forty to sixty times more testosterone than an adult female body, but females are more sensitive to the hormone.[1] However the overall ranges for male and female are very wide, such that the ranges actually overlap at the low end and high end respectively."

Quoting catwoman:

Well I don´t know what schools you went to, but I never saw such a thing as that taught in any school I went to.

Hmmm....looking up testosterone, I found this....

"Effects on the brain

As testosterone affects the entire body (often by enlarging; men have bigger hearts, lungs, liver, etc.), the brain is also affected by this "sexual" advancement; the enzyme aromatase converts testosterone into estradiol that is responsible for masculinization of the brain in a male fetus.

There are some differences in a male and female brain (the result of different testosterone levels). A clear difference is the size: the male human brain is, on average, larger; however, in females (who generally do not have as high testosterone levels) the corpus callosum is proportionally larger. This means that the effect of testosterone is a greater overall brain volume, but a decreased connection between the hemispheres."

What has this proven? Nothing. Absolutely no connection between this and whether men are capable of raising children and whether women are capable of having professional careers.

Apparently in a forum called "look who the real closed minded people are at TLC" we are supposed to remain serious and respectful. May I remind everyone that this very inappropriate forum was started by a mod (who is also a man referring to other members as "small minded"). So much for everyone being nice and respectful. Perhaps we can find more respectable postings in the Internet Porn forum or perhaps Catwoman should not be an admin forum (totally disrepectful...and I think she took it quite well), or any number of forums attacking religion or lifestyle choices(too many to name here). It´s ok to talk about female circumcision, abuse of females, burkas or women in general in a venomous way...BUT OH NO...DON´T DARE MAKE A JOKE ABOUT MEN!! You mods have all gone NUTS! Ofcourse it´s ok to talk about everything including internet porn, female circumcision, burkas, or the closure of AKP etc, but if it comes to a level like, "ohh, we can include Tayyip Erdoğan into our man farm, he´s not so hairy, but not Abdullah Gül" (just an example), then it makes the difference.
Then, searching in the user pictures to find people for your fun, what will be the next? Can´t you just see it?
Is it so difficult to get the difference?

Suddenly nagging and whining? I remember very clearly that you played the game along, you even posted pictures of ´yourself´ with a hairy skin and if a topic was bleeding to death, you dug it up again. Sorry, and you expect people to take this seriously, because you are the only man that complained? Grow up.

This complete discussion is in my view nearly about censorship, apparently some like that as a new functionality here. It has nothing to do with forum rules but indeed, as GG said in her other topic, with Mr. & Mrs. S.O. Humor. Well, as far as I see, they are gone for a very long time. Except for some, the protest about ´blond/dumb-women´-jokes (and also jokes, maybe not here, about female sexuality, rape and worse. Why not open a topic with a news flash to protest to that?) are a small trace comparing to the - o, so honest we defend men - protesters. It looks to me that many things can´t be said anymore because, oh oh , someone might have long toes! (Sorry, these ´it is so humiliating-texts´ really piss me off, it´s only protesting when it suits the protestor.)

Why is it that you pick this subject but say nothing about keith´s antics today, which were FAR more offensive????

Because it´s a matter between the mods and admins. We won´t deal with it in the public.

That´s a cop-out! I´m not saying that admin should come here and tell everyone that a mod has been censured! Do you not have an opinion of what happened? Mod´s speak out against mods all the time. You are members just like the rest of us. If you see something that outrages you then you have a right to speak up about it. It´s not a secret society is it?

Well,as i see its gone too far for what it worth it,but ok

Quoting girleegirl:

Quoting CANLI:

Are you kidding me ?! lol
Nope they said men farm of studs because we dont need them anymore ,is that appropriate ? lol
Look i dont mind making such jokes, actually ehhhmmm and more too,but not in forums !

Uhhhhh not quite canli. No one said it was a stud farm because we don´t need men. What was said was "We are looking for good genetic material...shouldn´t they be perfect from the get go???"

İ guess you need to reread the posts again gg to see what have been said exactly.

Quoting girleegirl:

But again, I think this is really quite silly for this to go on for so long. What´s more interesting it that none of you that are so offended by this JOKE seem to have been offended by keith´s personal, crude comments to another member. Strange priorities.

Ok lets put names into it gg,who are we kidding here ?
The issue between KeithL and handsom is well known, and went to far too from BOTH sides to be honest
İ dont know exactly what is the matter between them and if it is a personal matter or what, but if that is the case it would be nice if both of them take it out of forums.
Beside, you cant judge if we ´or me´ were offended or not,as i said,i think it was and is a personal matter, and discussing it at forums will make it more bigger than it should be
What do you think will be better, that we post a comment here to KeithL that ´you shouldnt have said that to handsom´ so KeithL will quote another comment from handsom to him says ´he started it´ then we should say, handsom you shouldnt say this ....ect ?!
Or its better if we take it out of forums ?!!!

You mods have all gone NUTS! (No offense to nuts)

mmmmmm,not nice Lise,not nice really

Well,we are not talking or discussing it from mods points of view
for 2 reasons actually,
First,i dont think something have been said here and deserve to be deleted or anything ´regarding men issue´
Second,if it was the case,so im sry,but mods wont discuss it first, there is the forum rules and we will be following it

As gg said,we are also members and we have our own opinions, and mine was no,its not appropriate that men farm,as it wont be appropriate if it was women farm.

And coming to it,yes we´ve talked about women here many times, but honestly none has ever made fun of women that way if i remember well
And if anyone did,it wouldnt be acceptable too
Even in a thread once i said in general women dont make good drivers and if i remember well cat wasnt happy about it,and we had long debats about it
So dont tell me its ok to joke about women!
Mostly, jokes were about men ´hairy men´ and that was jokes with handsom, and as long as its ok with him, then its not of my business.

I would like to let Elisabeth know that I am not the least offended if she calls me nuts! . Is it an offensive word in some other culture? However, I am a bit upset if she didn´t realise my comments were a joke

Well I think she DID mean it as a joke and, as I said, I certainly didn\´t take offense (offence??). The English/American sense of humour is clearly very difficult for the rest of the world to understand.

- Who mentioned George Bush and Tony Blair???

What has this proven? Nothing. Absolutely no connection between this and whether men are capable of raising children and whether women are capable of having professional careers.

Did I say men were incapable of raising children or that women are NOT capable of having prosessional careers? NO I did not.

I said....and please read very slowly over again...

We need to re-evaluate how we have been and are doing things.

You seem to have assumptions as to what I think and that leaks over to what you percieve I write. Read carefully please.

I do not make quick off hand statements. I think carefully about what I read and write. It would be appreciated if before commenting, some time spent reading and thinking were done.

Alameda, seriously, maybe you need to do some self searching. You come off as an incredibly bitter and angry person. Has it ever occurred to you that maybe the misunderstandings with you stem from your words and actions?
I know it takes you a long time to write your posts but it seems to me that you are the one that needs to take a bit more time and care to ensure your message gets across the way you intend since it seems you are always “misunderstood”.
This post is one of your most arrogant and insulting yet. Catwoman is an intelligent adult and she (or anyone else here for that matter) does not need to be told “read very slowly”!

When I am accused of saying something I have not said, I have the right, in fact the obligation to correct that.

I apologize for troubling you with my style of writing. I realize sometimes it´s difficult for some to digest more than one vowel or syllable in a sentance, however, seeing as this is a language learning site, I don´t think it´s unreasonable to use them.

Thanks Leelu, I wasn´t sure of the English version so I used the French one. (I could have used the Dutch one as well, but then nobody knew what I said I guess...)
