I thought the ban was lifted, now doubtful.

 if Ataturk videos removed.

A Turkish court in Ankara ordered the ban on YouTube in May in response to videos that it deemed insulting to Ataturk, the founder of modern Turkey.

"We will annul the ban. But they will continue to insult Ataturk. Can a Turkish citizen consent to this?" Transportation Minister Binali Yildirim was quoted by Dogan News Agency as telling reporters.

Turkey briefly imposed bans on access to YouTube on similar grounds in the past, but access was later restored after the website removed the videos.

Under Turkish law, it is a crime to insult Ataturk.

I think that seeing and hearing critically thinking, smart and talented Turks like Pamuk will give Turkey a good image.

 Well it would, if not most news about Pamuk is followed by how some Turks see him

However Youtube is banned in Turkey, you can still browse it by using alternative servers.

For example http://ktunnel.com/

I thought they had allowed access again 5-6 weeks ago? Last month when I was still in Turkey it worked for a couple of days. What is the ban caused by this time?

 It doesn´t matter whether you can or cannot use it. The idea that it is closed is wrong in itself. That mentality of governing the people has to be changed, thats all

I don´t remember exactly when. It was for a few days in the first or second week of September.

Yesterday afternoon in Turgutreis I could not open YouTube. The text about the ban was still there.

BTW, I read on a Dutch site that the website of Vatan (Turkey´s nr. 3 newspaper) is blocked as well because of the complaint of a muslim for articles in that newspaper about the evolution theory...!

Again the question: what about press-freedom and freedom of speech if just 1 person has that much influence? (This man had success before with banning site about the same theory.)

 And there was Erdoðan a month ago on television in a big rethoric against Doðan Media that there is press-freedom in Turkey. He was speaking too loud and too rethorical to be believed anyway.

I hope Turkey gets over such nonsense soon.

 Pretty frustrating that you have to be monitored even in the privacy of your own home.{#lang_emotions_sad}
