Hi,

This is for friends who live in the UK and make calls to Türkiye,

if you dial 0844 861 7474 first and then your Türkiye number (land lines) it costs 1p per min. well I've been using it for the last 2 weeks and I will see if its true in my next telephone statement!!
for the mobile phones the number you have to call is 0871 343 4744 9p per min..(I haven't tried this one though..)

No, there is no card involved, you just dial 0844 number first and then your number and press the # button..

There are also two numbers to call which cost the same rate as a UK mobile or use up your free minutes.but not all mobile operators use it for free, virgin mobile and orange let you definitely..

07744360222
07744200003

then you just type in the turkish mobile/landline number
you can call mobiles anytime mon-fri but not at weekends and landlines anytime....

I dont think anyone can beat my dubious title of "largest phone bill" award winner . In one month in particular, my cell phone bill (normally around £35) was £365 and my house phone bill (normally £75) was £486!!!

But....it was still worth it

Perhaps I could become a professional silly thread creator to pay my next bill

WOW Definately you have won! Ypu poor thing buy an international phonecard if you don't trust these numbers.

Well, I am silly really. I have a web call account, but the quality is not so good hehehehe! So I still use my land line! Anyway, I have done a deal with my cell-phone company now - if you threaten to leave, they give you anything you want

My phone bill is usually around that size...I'm really not proud of it, but what can I do? What would anybody do if they couldn't speak to their loved ones? My hubby is currently in the army and he doesn't even call that often. I just feel a strong obligation to help him with any problem that he has in there and rarely say goodbye first.
Off dünya!

I would also spend that much if my hubby was in the army, from speaking to my about his army days, I imagine that its worth every penny and he probably lives for your calls right now. Well done money well spent in my opinion!

Thank you so much for that comment! It's very different from what everyone around here says. They seem to think that it doesn't matter and it makes me sad that they don't understand (or even try to) what it is like to go through with the turkish army.
Still, I feel for your phone bills, it's not fun to receive those at all

No its not but I've always used an international calling card, luckily we are together I moved over there pretty quickly, 4 weeks after meeting him!!!!! Just stay strong for him keep on calling and doing what you are doing...........
I spoke to lots of the men and they told me that phonecalls were the most precious thing to them, just to hear someones voice at the other end, reassuring them and telling them that they are loved and that the army is not forever. Just try to use a calling card and reduce your bills, just think of what you could be saving it for when he finishes! You could buy a car!!!!! Or something else which you can enjoy together, maybe a holiday! Take care and good luck!!!

Thanks for your comments. It's absolutely true. We just finished taking over the webcam and it's very precious to us Do you live in Turkey now then? I did but went to my home country again because of the army factor.

Oh how I wish we still did live in Turkey! We have been here since nov 2005 - england I mean by that! We don't like it here etc, but we have bought some land in Turkey now due to working hard etc. We have to try very hard at times to convince ourselves that we did the right thing coming here.
It's difficult though especially as its now winter and horrible, january's such a miserable month everyone is miserable. We don't like our jobs etc here, but we know that if we perservere then in a few years we can move back and have a nicer life!

That is what we want to do as well. I'd like to live in Turkey but I need assurance that we won't fall into poverty.

hi,

i dont know if you've heard of skype but you can make cheap international calls through them if you have a skype (or internet) phone. if you are ringing someone who also has skype and a skype phone (i.e. calling over the net) the call is free aswell!!

i think from england its about 7p per minute to turkish landline and about 12p per minute to turksih mobile!
