Poland has been Forced to Deny Radek Sikorski, Foreign Minister, ´Joked´ that Barack Obama´s Grandparents were Cannibals

Writing in his blog, Mr Czarnecki, an MEP, quoted the foreign minister as saying: "Have you heard that Obama may have a Polish connection? His grandfather ate a Polish missionary."

A spokesman for the Polish foreign office conceded that Mr Sikorski had made the controversial comment, but denied that the foreign minister had intended to insult Mr Obama, whose father was Kenyan.

"Mr Sikorski did not tell a racist joke," said Piotr Paszkowski, the spokesman. "He was only giving an example of the unpalatable and racist ´jokes´ that surround President Elect Obama." Source: U.K. Telegraph

What is the point of denying that their minister is a racist bigot? but if what he said is true, I can start liking Obama.{#lang_emotions_lol}

First of all I am not sure why this is racist? Second of all, why does it make him a ´racist bigot´? You are truly a wonder, tamiki! lol You never cease to amaze us where you spew your hatred next.

First of all, your post is making me think that Poles are not even able to see this is racist.

Second of all, Im not the one who is throwing out hatred but your dear minister whom you`re pointlessly trying to defend.

 Of course it is a racist comment!!!! You don´t see it?  Would he have made that comment about a white president?  He is referring to some primitive "tribe" to try and humiliate Obama in this "joke".  It is outrageous! {#lang_emotions_wtf}

As the article says:-

"What a bunch of idiots. Again, is this the best Poland could do? Don´t they have bigger issues to worry about? Like Russia breathing down their back. Say what you will, Barack Obama will still become the next President of the United States."

Racist? Poles? OF COURSE! We are racists and even if we don´t realise that. Another Polish MP said that with Obama´s presidency, the era of white man´s rule in USA is over. Nobody felt offended because it´s tolerable to say so in Poland. We don´t have a significant black community to protest and we go on believing the rest of the world is like us. Sikorski, though should be more sensitive to this issue as he´s got British education as far as I know

Yes, this is primitive and stupid, but I don´t think it´s racist. How does it ´denigrate race´? Everybody has primitive tribal roots, it´s a fact. Just because he wouldn´t say that about a white president doesn´t mean anything, because only europeans are whites. To me it just shows ignorance.

 Of course it is blatant racism if he did in fact say it. How anyone could say otherwise is amazing, also this guy is apparently in charge of foreign affairs.{#lang_emotions_scared}

Not a tactful comment certainly but whoever said that cannibals only lived in Africa?  Following courtesy of the beloved Wikepedia!

Cannibalism (from Spanish caníbal, in connection with cannibalism among the Antillean Caribs)[1], also called anthropophagy (from Greek: ἄνθρωπος, anthropos, "human being"; and φαγειν, phagein, "to eat") is the act or practice of humans eating other humans. In zoology, the term "cannibalism" is extended to refer to any species consuming members of its own kind (see cannibalism (zoology)).

Neanderthals are believed to have practiced cannibalism.[2] [3] Among modern humans it has been practiced by various groups;[4] In the past in Prehistoric Europe,[5][6] Africa,[7] South America,[8] New Zealand,[9] North America,[10] Australia,[11] Solomon Islands,[12] New Caledonia,[13] New Guinea,[14] India,[15] Sumatra,[16] and Fiji,[17] usually in rituals connected to tribal warfare. Fiji was once known as the ´Cannibal Isles´. Evidence of cannibalism has been found in the Chaco Canyon ruins of the Anasazi culture

(Maybe he was referring to Obama´s maternal grandfather????)

BNP is quite a predictable outcome of the islamization through saudi money in europe. I believe it is going to get much worse.

 I don´t know about Poland catwoman but in Britain if a person makes jokes or ridicules a person from another ethnic group it is classed as racism, but then again as you said before I am not capable of deep intellectual thoughts.{#lang_emotions_sad}

Well, in Britain, anything is called racism. Even criticizing obvious things in one or another group or religion is called racism. I am not defending the stupid joke that this man said, I think it´s primitive and offensive. But I do not think it´s racist. It does not imply anything about a particular race, even if Africa is backwards in some ways, that is not to say that black people are somehow inferior to white people. I am sure the meaning of this joke depends on the context as well, but only based on what I know, I don´t see how it is racist. I think that calling this joke racist is similart to me calling you racist because you criticized someone/something from my country.

 You know I think how you see it depends a great deal on your cultural context. You most probably are unaware of how Blacks and cannibalism have been related in the US. Here in the US a common image to demean blacks would be cooking Europeans up in pots. The stereotypes had bones in their noses.

The actual cannibals were in the Pacific, not Africa. Head hunting and cannibalism were prevelent in the Americas, Columbus met some, as did Cortez with the Aztecs

the statement is racist, condescending and utterly ignorant, if kenyans actually ate people then there would be no problem to make a statement like that because it would be true and because its false going out of your way in front of the media as a political leader to make a false statement like really states that you are a racist idiot.

As a world leader who is trying to do right be your nation it would be petty to say that and then call yourself a leader and to set a huge example for you people its makes you look like a joke.

and you of all person sent Obama a letter of congratulation on his victory in becoming america´s next president you are so fake. its just so pathetic that people have to be making up racist lies just to get what........?
