Hi

Now that summer begins, my body is longing for crappy commercial music with eastern sounds and beats
Like Mustafa Sandal and Gülşen
Spring and summer just ask for happy easy songs without thinking. But I also like to stay up to date with the popular songs in Türkiye.

Is there any website with a top 40 or anything like a top 10 or whatever from Turkish songs?

Thanks

Hmmm ok.. I sometimes watch satellite with my Iranian friend, watching Iranian clips.. their music kicks ass also!!

Soon there is a concert of an Iranian and a Turkish musician in my city, I'm gonna ask her to go with me.. though i doubt if she'll want to go as it is during our final exams But who would study from dawn till night anyway?

I don't think that you can call it R&B, Kral TV/FM is especially famous for Arabic Turkish songs, türküs (traditional songs) and the very popular commercial songs.

Hehe ok, sounds attractive to me though

Can someone name me some R&B artists of Türkiye?

And how would we call Ibrahim Tatlıses music? Came across him and i actually like it, but i always wanna know how one is appreciated in Türkiye itself and what kinda music it is

I don't know any turkish R&B artists , but there're some rap singers like Ceza (there are more but I'm not very interested)
Here is a small biography of İ.T
İbrahim Tatlıses is from Urfa (Şanlıurfa)(born in 1954). His mother is Kurdish and his father is from arabic descent (as far as I know, I may be wrong...)Before being famous, he sang Türküs there in the special traditional occasions and he was known for his impressive, touching and good voice. Then he moved to İstanbul with his family (they were really poor and İbrahim Tatlı (his real family name) hasn't ever gone to school, he later with his own effort learnt how to read&write). He worked as a worker in the buildings and while he was singing while working, he was discovered by a man and then hiscareer as a singer started. In 1977, he made his first album, his first song "Ayağında Kundura" made a bomb effect in the country at that time (I mean it made him sooo famous ). First he mostly did traditional songs called Türkü, but later the sound of arabic music became more dominant in his songs but still he sings both kinds (arabesk and türkü). I can easily say that he's the most loved and known singer in Turkey. He has lots of fans. While most of his fans are economically and socially poor, he's well liked by upper classes as well, but still a part of the upper class dislikes him, because usually that kind of music and singers are a bit looked down upon (but I like all the good things) No one can deny that he has such a strong voice and for me as well he's one of the best voices (maybe the best) that sings the south-east türküs. BTW, his nick is "İmparator"
One thing I can criticize and don't like may be some of his acts and talks, but as his life has been difficult and he has got no school education, it's an expected thing, but I can never say bad about his voice.
He has a weekly show program on TV.
So, it has given you a general idea about him. I hope

No i haven't But there are a few things that I'm looking forward to soooo much once i live in Türkiye (beside KADIR ofcourse!)

1. Spending hours in CDshops buying all i like, no downloadstuff anymore.
2. Spending hours in bookstores for good literature, poetry and dictionaries!
3. Going to all those concerts
4. Being able to watch normal turkish telly instead of TRT INT.
5. Buying Turkish food and learning to cook them

Once I showed the picture of İ. Tatlıses to a german friend, and he said "but this is Saddam Hüseyin" And later I got him listen to him, and he hated him. (usually it's very difficult for westerners to get used to this kind of music) So, Esther, I really admire you for being very open to all kind of cultural things.
BTW, last week İbrahim Tatlıses had his famous moustache cut after so many years.

Thanks For some reason i feel a huge attraction to the east and i feel like it was there before i met Kadir as well. But he kinda opened it up
Ohh do you know some good Kurdish singers? Though i think they won't be very popular in Türkiye, I think Kadir will be pleased if i enlarge my knowledge upon that

And Kadir cut his moustache for me 2 years ago, tho on his msn-profile he had written: "No, I am not gonan shave my beard and moustache because i love it "
And after two months chatting with me (if not less!) he already cut it off (a)

Well thanks again, mon amie plus chère
