I am planning a driving trip to Turkey in my motorhome and would be very gratefull of any information from locals and recommendations for campsites. My first Turkish stopover will be Istanbul, and would prefer to stay somewhere outside the city and use public transport for visiting.   From there I will tour along the coast to Bodrum and then plan again from there.   If there are places where I can wild camp safely I would like to know.  Also if anyone knows of any web sites for this sort of travel.

 When you say "wild camp" you mean in a tent in the wilderness?  Requiring a small spade??{#lang_emotions_lol}  Or are you referring to stopping in your camper van?

{#lang_emotions_noway} Now thats a scarey thought! hehehe

Wild camping is parking in car parks overnight or open spaces, sometimes near a beach.Some countries allow it and in others it is illegal.

 hi

In the Bodrum area I have seen camper vans parked in lay-bys overlooking the sea - I think they have mainly been in designated view points and picnic areas. There are also a few camp sites in the area.

Do you have room in your suitcase???

Hi tinababy

Thats the sort of thing I´m on about, but its knowing whether its legal or not.

As for "room in suitcase" - thats the beauty of a motorhome, you don´t need one, but the possibility of a travelling companion is on the cards to share the expenses.{#lang_emotions_bigsmile}

 would love to join you but think work might have a problem if I take that much time off!! But let me know when you are in the area and hopefully I will be there and we´ll meet up - maybe you can park on the drive overnight?????{#lang_emotions_rolleyes}

As for whether or not it is legal - I haven´t seen many police moving people on but................ kim bilir??

Maybe a loval resident would know better?? I´ll ask some friends and see if they know.

Thanks that would be great, but its going to be a while before I do this trip, like you say work gets in the way, but I am planning early retirement, however I am hoping to fly out there in May to visit friends in Turgutreis so maybe we can meet up for a coffee or something {#lang_emotions_alcoholics}

 haha! for sure - I ommitted that detail from my essay about it in the Kackar Mountains!

Wild camping is camping without any facitilies what so ever and having to cater for every eventuality in your backpack!!!

I´ll be with mine (unfortunately!).

As you say,tinababy, we´d normally avoid places like Gumbet too but we have been there for a quick look (about 2 hours!) It´s okay off-season.

My kids (?) love it there!!!! And actually it is fantastic about 4.30am on the way from the airport. The soup is great and the bread fresh!!

Actually the last time I went I took my daughter and friend and a grand old lady of 86!! We all had a good time in our own way - will admit to leaving the young;´uns to it at about 2am. Only so long I could stand watching everybody else drinking and going back to my cup of tea!

Actually Mr. Frogs does a good karaoke night - so I´ve been told!!

Do you think it is ready for us???????

Well I don´t have a husband to worry about, but a good idea about the dudus though.{#lang_emotions_shy}

I´ve never been to Gumbet because of what I´ve heard about it, and I have heard about Mr.Frogs, in actual fact one of the TC members (ex member he is on the deleted list now)works there. Maybe he could organise our party?
