 Oh I´m sure us united fans will be crying buckets over that loss when we´re lifting the cup in May muhahaha.  The b/f is a Beşiktaş fan, and I´m awaiting a gloating txt, much like the one I got on the weekend when they won Fenerbaçhe (another team I support), hmm begining to think I might be a bad luck supporter to my teams lately, they´re all losing {#emotions_dlg.lol}

Just look at the league as you can see they are one of the less-scoring team. All matches they won 1-0, they are kind of counter-attack team. They defend with 10 players and their players are standard not so qualified, i think it is one of their tradition...

It was an official Champions League match. I don´t think SAF targeted a loss. On the contrary, he was depending on the appetite of his young squad. This is a common method for seasoned British trainers. There are multiple benefits: you avoid injuries of your important players, give them a chance to rest, avoid red or yellow cards and get around with the feeling of satisfaction. For young players, it is a great chance for displaying their skills. In the past, this scheme has almost always worked.

As for yesterday´s match. no one can say, there was a lack of skill or determination. These young guys fought relentlessly till the end. It seems they have a lot quality too. Besiktas was a good example for them for understanding in what departments they have short comings. There are things that can only be learned in a real match.

 Uh huh, and you are telling me things I already know why? {#emotions_dlg.unsure}  As I said Ferguson played his baby team, which he did, some new and some inexperienced players, firstly to give them experience and secondly to keep top players safe from injury and bookings and to rest them (or vice versa!).  I never implied he went out to lose, I dont think any team sets out to lose any match!!  And I also think a lot of the players played well, and a lot of them showed great potential, they just lack experience.

I´ve been a supporter of united all my life, as is my son, and just cause I´m a girl doesn´t mean I don´t know anytin bout it haha {#emotions_dlg.lol}Wink

Btw I was also expecting/hoping for an extra time screamer that united are so good at delivering haha {#emotions_dlg.alcoholics}

 What excuse???!!! Did I make an excuse??!!, I said they were a young team, which thay were, I didn´t use it as an excuse, just stating a fact.  I don´t think he was wrong, the young players need experience playing at this level and of course he´s going to keep the top players safe from injury etc.  Yep we lost, and I´m unhappy about that, but emm we´r through so.... and out of 5 games united have won 3 times, drawn once and lost once, Beşiktaş have won once, drawn once and lost a grand total of 3 times!..... ooh and where is Liverpool haha

What is wrong is the lack of grace displayed by MU here...,worst losers are those without grace....It looks cheap anywhere.

I also hope people are not calling other people cheap. This is just football meant for entertainment.

To put the record straight ManU are undeniably the better team should any comparisons be made between the two teams. Although a very old team itself, BJK´s history is no where as rich as ManU´s. I still remember your key players from the 80´s; this alone tells the story.

Nevertheless, this is football and you can always lose to a weaker side, if you are not on form or too reluctant to play. Here the problem was obviously Ferguson´s decision to play young and inexperienced players. If I were him, I would do exactly the same thing. I would also look for other opportunities to get them to show off themselves whenever I feel at ease with the forthcoming fixtures and rankings.

Having said that we must also remember that this ancient club of Besiktas have supporters who have never thought about giving up on their team despite long spells of failures and bad football. They have even broken a few records in decibels and have been entitled as the noisiest supporters of the world. (don´t ask for the source, I´ve just read it in the newspapers).

It is always fun to watch the likes of ManU, Barcelona, Real Madrid and sometimes Fenerbahce, Galatasaray and Besiktas. Football is a beautiful game...

What is cheap is lack of grace.

You have no problems if you have it !

You simply congratulate the winner, do not hide behind excuses, and take Alex Ferguson and his  jolly youngsters out to the nearest playground......... to play in the sand pool.

I can vouch for that vineyards. We visited Istanbul for the first time earlier this year and our first night coincided with Beşiktaş celebrations on winning the championship. Our hotel was ın the Maçka area near to the İnönü Stadium and thousands of jubilant fans filled the street and stopped the traffic letting off fireworks and flares. As we made our way through the throng we could see young children there with their parents and the atmosphere was good.
