I'm a Tarkan's fan (but not really number 1). I even could sung his songs whithout having learned turkish at all. Later, when I begun studying turkish, I'm using his songs to get a better knowledge of turkish (expressions, vocabulary, etc.). It's actually learning a language using songs, don't you think?

I think it is a good idea to use song lyrics to help you learn Turkish. Lyrics are probably the easiest things to remember - if you like the songs

I also love to listen Tarkan and... Ibrahim Tatlises, and I become happy to see here another who likes Ibrahim songs.

Do you like Kayahan? I also like his music.

It's a good idea to use songs in order to learn, and in other courses of different languages it's used, and, due to that most people starts learning a language in order to understand the songs of some loved artist, it would be fun,
but, it can be complicated for beginners. The songs language is de poetry language, and, usually, it's hard to understand, because it uses idioms, changes the words order...etc, and some songs could be usefull, but, the mostly part could be difficult to beginners.

I realized it today, translating a tale (tales are another option); I was used to translate songs, and, that was very difficult to me, and, todey, with that tale I realised that Turkish grammar, specially sintax, isn't as difficult as I thought.

Yes, it's true, and thus songs are used in language courses; myself i started translating Baris Manço songs, and also Tarkan and Ibrahim. Because of it, the mostly part of vocabulary that I know is ask, kalb, sevmek, unutmak...etc hehehhe.

If you love the artist the songs are useful, and a very beautyful manner to learn, I only wanted to tell these, if you haven't the necessary things, as a good dictionary, grammar, and guides about street uses of the words and idioms, and the culture, sometimes the songs could be confusing.

But, if you have the necessary methods, you do learn more things that only the grammar. Do you know "Ne faydasi var?", to understand it completely, it's necessary to know the stories about Leyla and Mecnun and Kerem, and, i love very much it, because I don't only want to learn a language, I wanna learn a culture.

But, for some beginners, it could confusing, and it's better to know firstly the basics; i.e., the use of -yom instead of -yorum...in some songs (i.e. Neset Ertas) that form is used, and would be preferable to know completely the form -yorum and, after, to know -yom.

Selam!

I also love Tarkan. I have heard from many of my turkish friends that he is gay. What do you think? What do you know? What is the general Turkish view of homosexuality. I have a gay son - I am proud of him. He has a hard life even in England. What do my turkish friends think of this? I am happy to hear good arguments about this, but nothing insulting please

There are gays in Turkey- I've met one. I met him in Poland, he came to university for a scholarschip and he was a boyfriend of my gay-friend.
They have very hard life there, because most Turks don't like or even hate homosexuals. It's impossible to say in public that you are a gay.
My turkish friend told me taht he even had a girlfriend in Turkey so as not to be suspected of being homosexual. Isn't it horrible?
And also most of homosexual Turks marry with women because they have no choice- they have to make a family, because family and society insists on.

hehe pls dont tell me that being gay is normal.. really this is funny well remind the living aims that were learnt in biology... if sth is normal the other ways are abnormal so human beings are created for being couple couple means man-woman so the others are as a result of mentally illness if you ask me... ofcourse its non of my business but... isnt it awfull? yuckkk! ...

yes I think it IS normal and I know some gays they are my real friend and believe me they are normal people like me and you

So maybe if I like dark hair men and some other girl likes blondes I should think its awful and she isn't normal?
Oh please....

I don't know what you are tought on biology lessons but if your teacher tells you that gays are abnormal people, he must be one of those totally intolerant Turks are don' like (speaking gently).

One of my closest frds at the uni was gay and I was perfectly fine about that. I don't understand why people (usually other men) have a problem about it. I don't mind people having any kind of sexual orientation as long as they dont make my life difficult. Frankly speaking, i've had more problems with "straight" guys than with gay ones. Thus, do I mind homosexuals? No. I definitely don't!

Have you ever noticed how it's usually men and not women that object to gay people? If they are honest, it's not 'gay' they object to, it's homosexuals they object to.... lesbians are a completely different thing...I think this may be something to do with double standards again??

I've heard a theory that those men who are fierce opponents of gay men are so for the fear of being claimed gay themselves or are not totally sure of their own sexuality
Yes, it always surprises me that much as (some) men abhore male gays, they have nothing against lesbians. Perhaps, it has something to do with male fantasies of having sex with more than one women...

Well i guess these views come from the idea that sex and partnership is only for reproducing - Well i think we have seen enough posts on these forums to understand that it is not only for reproduction! What about love and partnership? Can't two people want to be together and support and love each other without reproducing? of course they can. Even straight (heterosexual) people have sex for fun or relationships that are platonic.

I know enough about boys to know that for them most sex is definitely NOT about reproduction! - and if it were, why would people use contraception? Or maybe you think contraception is also wrong or that you should only have sex when you want to have a baby? That old reproduction argument is dead in the water now.

Anyway, i don't think anyone thought you were talking about anyone 'personally' so don't worry, you are entitled to your views of course.

and the word that you couldn't remember was 'breathing'

I'm not saying that gay people don't have sex. of course they do.

But my point is, that you can only argue against homosexuality by using the 'its not normal because sex is for reproduction' idea, if you can truly say that you believe that its normal for people (any people) only have sex to reproduce - and it would be very difficult to argue this!

But as to love and support and friendship these are the basis of a relationship PLUS sex.

Only in societies that prohibit the idea of same sex partnerships do gay people only seek to get together for sex. If they live in a country where they can live openly together like a family, then sex is not the only thing they seek.

I actually know two male policemen who live together like a family and they have adopted 2 children and live happily like a 'normal' family.

heheh nope it was "respiration"... i just gave that reproducing to teach you that... man and woman... why we all dont created in one way then homo(latin word) is normal? this is becoz of all bullshits of frued and his psycho thoughts.. i was getting my stomach out when i was reading him this is becoz of using ur freedom.. in i can do whatever i want.. no.. your freedom ends when you hurt my eye touch also in a night program.. we decided that there is man and woman no other sex i actually dont wanna talk about them much.. they can f.ck whoever they want in their home.. but i dont want them come to my face.. i want a right.. i am a gay i am a gay.. cmon how you feel when your son or bf or husband or dad come with i am a gay sentence ) this is really absurd

well actually, I alread did say that one of my sons IS gay! and how I feel about is that i'm sorry for him that the world is full of bigots who don't approve of him because they don't understand him.

I am proud of him. He is a good person. Honest, decent, hardworking and kind. I love him and want him to be happy even if that means that I get another 'son' instead of a 'daughter' when he finds a partner and I won't have any grandchildren from him.

It is very nice of you to say this Sui Generis. You would like him. He has lots and lots of friends. Boys and girls. The boys who are his friends are quite 'normal' (lololo) and they like him because he is a very good friend to have. They are not afraid of him. Can a boy have a friend who is a girl or woman but doesn't want to have sex with her? of course. It is just the same.

Tarkan is a rare artist. I hope he is protected from the evil eye of jealousy and other negativeity. He manages to combine classic Turkish singing in a unique way that communicates with contemporary society.

He has the best of the Turkish man qualities, that is masculine, but unafraid of showing affection. He has the playful manner that reminds me of a kitten.

May Allah protect Tarkan and keep him healthy in all ways. May he mature into an even better artist. We are lucky to be able to enjoy such an artist.

Apparently he only charges around £50,000 to entertain you on News Years Eve, as opposed to George Micheal who charged £1.5m to enterain a Russian billionaire on New Years Eve (and then lost a lot of his equipment in a fire later). It obviously pays to be a good singer.........

Then love me, she said
We're all lonely on this road
They say life is a game,
She said, "First find yourself, then find me
Don't break, don't do this, my heart
Don't be angry
There's a reason for everything
Don't look for someone to blame
Don't ask, don't ask, my heart
Actually, deep down, you know that
When it comes to love, no one loses

My innocent tears will secretly stain me inside
I won't say anything at your departure

She said, We're all lonely on this road
They say that life is a dream
Be by my side, don't captivate love to time

(x2)
Don't break, don't do this, my heart
Don't be/get angry
There's a reason for everything
Don not look for someone to blame
Don not ask, don't ask, my heart
deep down, you know that
When it comes to love, no one loses

i think its right.......
