one thing irritates me. isnt there any consideration for foreigners?

doesnt any signle turk come up with an idea of tolerance?

e.g. a foreign person doesnt know the customs thus behaves the way s/he behaves?

when a foreigner comes to my country I know she or he hasnt got a clue of customs, so I dont expect anything. nobody expects anything. we just know that they are foreigners. we are there to help them, to make sure that they feel home.

i mean what an arrogance to expect your guest to know the rules and stupid customs (yes, very stupid idiotic customs) and then to get angry if not followed?

Wake up to read this :

Oh I´ll tell you what they want.

FIRST THEY WANT TO F**K YOU.

THEN THEY WANT TO LICK YOU.

THEN THEY WANT TO TAKE YOUR MONEY AND SEND YOU ON YOUR WAY *starts crying* LIKE A DAMN LOVE LETTER. Thats what.

To ´fit in´ sell your body on the street and make sure you hold a sign that say

´I am a lonely person with money who wants love, I give mine free"

And you are fitting in, personal experience.

But, hey, that is just what I think. (more like know tukachic)

Oh, and don´t forget to smile today.

great personal experience! there is smth in saying that we get what we deserve...

btw, there is nothing bad in making acquaintance with turkish women. they are great by the way. and due to my experience, none of them wanted/tried to f... me.

in they do not expect anything.

again from my personal experience nobody expected me to kiss hand and put it to forehead, they just advised me not to eat while walking etc. they told me some customs among other things, corrected me with smile. and even despite that added that as i was young lady i might not follow all those "old" rules. they left it to me and let me being free.

to tell the truth i tried to follow to show my respect to people around, to culture and etc. and when i kissed hand of one old lady she was just happy, though it was hard for me bec till that i never ever kissed anyone´s hand. and not bec i dont respect, it just does not come natural for me. respect for me is smth other

i live in big city in my country and when i travel in the middle of nowhere within my country i feel foreigner. we speak almost the same language etc, but i m far from all those traditions etc. and they also dont expect me to know everything. local people are tolerant to me, show and tell me how to behave. and it is ok.

i think initial question is more suitable for those who are going to marry and want to be liked by future mother-in-law and gonna live in country for long. so some little hints to be understood correctly.

Let me tell you a true story Trudy.

One day a woman was walking down the street with a 10-year-old child. The woman was middle aged, a little chubby and short. By looking at her face and natural blonde hair you could tell that she wasn´t Turkish (she was German by the way).

to avoid such situation i was advised to walk towards traffic

then car wont be able to follow you. AND IT WORKED ))

Seriously, trobles makes people clever

Are they really do that much, I mean, stop to car, offer you ride or follow you ? Sounds like more Harlem to me...not like i have been there, i guess..

never been to Harlem... cant compare ))

in fact not THAT much but if you look good enough Cool

and it would be coquetry to tell that women dont like men´s attention. (and vice versa) it is felt nice to see you are attractive. we even say that if you want to feel yourself real woman - go to Turkey. and not for 1-2 weeks of "romance" on vacation. just for such attention. so ...

yes, men talk, ask smth, but it does not bother me - i keep walking my way. sometimes talk to sales men, try a lot of clothes on and leave without any purchase  {#emotions_dlg.laugh_at}

but i cnnot remember any serious problems.

just car is more dangerous, so it probably was really good advice.

There is much consideration and tolerance towards foreigners in vast areas of the country. And I dare to say arrogance is not a common thing as it comes to foreigners´behaviour. Somehow I haven´t noticed anybody angry with not obeying or breaking the customs. At least by me. Dwelling on Turkish expectations and overgeneralisation evident in this thread makes me burst into laughter. You are all specialists in Turkish character !!!!!!!!Tebrikler

What about a foundation?

All this discussion in this thread is grossly exaggereted for me. Wouldn´t it be better to start from scratch and convert it into"What most foreigners expect from Turks?"more fun ppl it would provide.

Ps I picked up lemon´s post since i am as well in a bunch of ppl who agree  with her words of wisdom. When you are a guest everybody makes you feel at home despite customs, trends ,fashions,etc...
