I must be crazy, but I am intrigued by Yilgun´s figures.  This is the World Bank site.  Would anyone care to search it?

Pardon me if I am showing my lack of intellect but is it scientific research or economic research?

Yilgun, perhaps the percentages you quoted relate to the developing countries . . . I don´t know.

Yilgun - if the article is about the whole population, it must include Uk (Peacetrain´s country).

Reading your first post I also wondered what you meant by education: being literate, or having primary/secondary or perhaps tertiary education?

Also, why do you ask about other´s people education level instead of answering their questions? Don´t you think it´s rude?

If this is addressed to me, the link I provided does not relate to my country (England) or indeed any single country.  Try as I might, I couldn´t find any statistics relating to the percentage of the world population that is educated. 

Education . . . how long is a piece of string?  What level of education is the percentage you quote referring to?

I don´t wish to be rude Yilgun, but please be clear in your response as I am finding it difficult to understand your comments.  Perhaps you can provide more detailed information.

Take pity on me, I´m an old lady who now feels even older, knowing that I went to Uni at the age DD is now!!  I gave up a job I´d held for 16 years and went to Uni with a 3 year old in tow.  I went from being educated to being more educated (I think) .  It´s never too late to learn.

I remember my first day at University (as a "wrinkly"), we were told we were amongst the top 5% in the country.  This is why I have a suspicion that the figure you quoted might relate to tertiary education and not education in general.

University education and intellectual culture are
very different concepts.
Intellectual culture is very important virtue.
"People Culture" depends on family culture, education

These fields and sciences (Literature, fine arts, philosophy,
universal law, world history, etc) only make people
cultured, well-educated or intellectual.

For example developed countries are importing good
brains from developing countries.Why?

There are big populations in

You can also see in this report that there is a difference between men and women in education. In some countries, we see that girls are denied basic education, whereas in other countries women represent the majority of university students. It´s an interesting difference.

I see now that I´m also required to offer my credentials here I have a university degree, and am currently working for a research centre which is part of the university. We link business, government and NGOs with scientific research to find solutions for sustainable development.
