Hi everyone!

I´m having some trouble to understand how to use this suffix. I´ll give you some examples:

-Senin okumanı beğendim.

-Onun anlatışı ilginç.

It seems to me they have the same function. Could i exchange them? for example:

-Senin okuyu beğendim.

-Onun anlamasını ilginç.

The first one doesn´t sound ok to me but the second one doesn´t sound bad. Are they right?

The thing is that, as i said before, i can´t really understand how to use this -ış,iş,uş,üs suffixes.

Can anyone help me?

Thanks.

-iş suffix creates nouns from verbs. It sometimes gives a meaning of -ing nouns in English:
anla-yış = understanding
bekle-yiş = waiting
düşün-üş = thinking
etc.

But sometimes it is equal to the verb used as a noun without adding any suffix in English
bak-ış = look
dur- = pause
yüksel- = rise
etc.

And sometimes it is used as manner names:
oku-yuş = the way one reads something
antlat-ış = they way one tells something

This last usage is used in your examples. So:
Senin okuyuşun = the way you read it
Onun anlatışı = the way he/she tells it

Senin okuyuşunu beğendim = I like the way you read it
Onun anlatışı ilginç = the way he/she tells it is interesting

Not to be confused with - suffix:

dur- = stop

dur-muş = stopped

As a wish to not have more babies after the baby given this name (from the times when the birth control was unheard of)

So if the wish is not fulfilled I suppose the next poor baby is call ´Yanlış´!

Vay be =), çok teşekkürler!

Nice explanation! But let me ask you something else so i´m not sure if there is a rule to use them, because in "bekleme odası" wich i read the other day, if i am speaking and i have to choose a sufix i would have choosen -ış, according to explanation, like this: bekleyiş odası.

I really would like to be sure when to use them. Or maybe the only way to get it is by reading and listening?
