I have begun a kind of sustainability game in my life.

The game is so easy.  Consume less!

Such as, if i turn an unnecessery light off, i get points. I begin to like the louche light as long as i begin that game. My house turned to be more silent because i do not keep the TV on just to hear some voices.  You know, a smile appears in my face when i realize that i wash my hands more hygenic when i turn down the tap.

What kind of creative or very simple recommendations do you have to adapt sustainability to our lives?

About two years ago, I bought a water filter for my kitchen sink.  I no longer buy all those individual plastic water bottles for drinking water.  I can use a reusable bottle and get my water right from my own sink.  A few months ago they finally installed one in my office and bought everyone a reusable water bottle.  Wahoo!

Wowww Elisabethh!! Thats great! +1000 points. I am really impressed. Congragulations

Once a UN expert told me that he has installed a system to his house for the turbination of water. He said he no longer waste even a piece of water at home. May be we all can´t install that system to our houses but i support and reccomend Elisabeth´s method for all.

By the way have you ever heard that producing 1 kg of red meat costs 70 times more water than 1 kg vegetable? So by eating vegetables, we can both live healthier and we can save the world

good idea to turn unnecessary lights off although some say that the actual turning on/off of lights uses more electricity than leaving them on!  do you know what ´louche´ means btw? - seems a strange word to use in this context

I think your saving from keeping the lights off for such as 1o mins would meet a 1 minute uses turn on/turn off expense. However i would be glad if someone who understands of electicity can enlighten us.

I used louche to express less light. We use it a lot in Turkish as "loş". What do the native speakers use the word louche for? Which word would be more suitable to mention less light?

ok - just what i heard - i´m not an expert on electricity

in english we would use ´louche´ to mean ´disreputable´, ´unsavoury´, ´of loose morals´ - referring to people´s character - however i wouldn´t say it´s in everyday use.  I notice in the dictionary that the turkish word ´loş´ translates as ´dim/dark/murky´.  I suppose we could say that someone has a ´dark and murky´ character in that sense but it doesn´t really translate to describing ´light´ in English. I would just use ´dimmer´ where you used ´louche´.

However, i´m sure zeytinne will be along soon to correct me

Turnin lights on and off doesn´t consume more electricity than leaving them on. In the golden olden days the early days of the low energy light bulb, it was the case that leaving the lights on for half an hour was cheaper than turning it on and off twice. But today even the low energy light bulbs don´t have this problem anymore, so don´t believe the myth and turn your lights off!

I have a switch on my electricity socket. For some reason my tv and my tv-tuner have an off button, but it just makes them go on stand-by. So, I bought an electricity socket with a switch so I can actually turn them totally off now. That´s also better for fire-safety.
