I´m not a registered user either.  I googled Ataturk then went to images and chose one that looked most like a Laurence Olivier pose.

Pfff... he was a dictator, he wore a mustache. That means he fits in the list. That the mass media is upset is just silly. The piece about him is nice, matching is mustache style with the stage he was in in his political life

Read it here: http://www.foreignpolicy.com/articles/2011/03/30/stiff_upper_

Ataturk was not a Hitler or Stalin. He doesnt belong to that list. You can´t catogarize him this easily. He was a very unique person. If you want to learn more about him here is a very objective biography of him by Andrew Mango

Have you ever thought that perhaps Turks are to sensitive about Ataturk? He was a man, nothing more, nothing less. This is not a list about horrible people. It is a list about dictators who had a mustache. Simple. And Ataturk fits that discription. I think it is silly for the mass media to be angry about this list, like the first article said. I think it´s about time that people in Turkey start treating him like a human being instead of this untouchable god-like figure. I don´t think he was Hitler, I don´t think he was Stalin, but I do think he was a dictator with a mustache. Hm...perhaps it´s not even what I think, but an actual fact. Why does everybody have to treat Ataturk like you can´t state facts about him? For example, it´s a fact that Ataturk was something close to an alcoholic. But when I state this fact inside Turkish borders people get angry with me. Why?

I don´t care whether Atatürk was a dictator. We all are grateful to him for what he did for this country. He may be godlike figure, so be it. No problem.

What I don´t understand why some people here keeps calling him "dictator" in a tone tryiing to belittle him.

OK. You´re right. Through a proxy I could see it. Maybe that site is blocked by my ISP.

It´s online, you can´t hear the tone. Dictatorship is just the type of government that Turkey was at the moment. In any case, I don´t want to belittle Ataturk, I just think that people are becoming to sensitive about saying anything slightly negative about Ataturk. The written piece about him in the list of mustaches wasn´t negative, but somehow the other people in the list were enough for "mass media"  to be insulted. It is almost like if the word "Ataturk" is not followed by "was great", that people are insulted.

Atatürk was a great leader and did good things for his country. We are all grateful to him.

Thank you dear God for sending us such a great leader!

I must have read a diffrent artilce because no where in the Article Stiff upper lip about Attaturk does it say he was dictator.

Now if wearing a mustache defines you as a dictator then my bf must be a dictator since he has been wearing a mustache for over 22 years and all the men in my family must then also be dictators!

let me see:

Stiff upper lip

Mustafa Kemal Ataturk

"The Kaiser"

Nearly every aspect of the father of modern Turkey´s life was freighted with historical significance, and his upper lip was no exception. The soaring mustache Ataturk wore as a young army captain (above, in 1907) was popular in the Ottoman era, modeled on the grooming style of Kaiser Wilhelm II, which reflected the influence of German culture on the Turkish intelligentsia of the period. But by the time Ataturk took office as the autocratic ruler of the new Republic of Turkey in 1923, his mustache had been pared back to a conservative bristle; as he guided Turkey toward economic and political liberalization in the years that followed he shaved it off entirely, as a symbolic example of Turkey leaving behind its Ottoman past in favor of a modern future.

But the Turkish mustache was not so easily vanquished; it continued to advance and retreat, in both size and significance, in the decades that followed. In the 1970s, a walrus-style mustache became a popular accessory among Turkey´s leftists. By the 1990s, it had evolved into a class symbol distinguishing the hirsute lower and middle classes from the clean-shaven urban elite. It returned to power in 2002 atop the lip of current Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan, a gesture of his populist appeal.

Nope it does not say he is a dictator, then does it mean that the Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan is a dictator also because he is mentionned in the same article?

1) Yes we are sensitive about Ataturk. He founded modern Turkey. He saved our country from being a mandate.

2) The dictators in the list such as Hitler, Stalin, Franco, Saddam Hüseyin were horrible people. So this list is about horrible people.

3) I agree Ataturk was a human being. But in the history of men there are many figures people take as a model or idol. I have many idols such as Spartacus, Leonidas, Che, Socrates, Rachel Corrie. Atatürk is also one of them. There is nothing wrong about it. Yes, he was a human but not an ordinary one.

4) As I said before dictatore word has only negative meanings today. So to call Atatürk as a dictatore is unfair.

5) I am never against facts. Ataturk was drinking too much alcohol. I agree with that.

6) People can get angry with you because when you think you are saying the facts maybe you are saying your personal thoughts that others don´t agree.

Thousands March In ´SlutWalk´ Rally | Photo 02

“I’ve been told I’m not supposed to say this, however, women should avoid dressing like sluts in order not to be victimized.”

A statement made by Toronto Police Const. Michael Sanguinetti when he and another officer from 31 Division conducted a York University safety forum discussion at Osgoode Hall on January 24th. A comment that sparked anger which has spread throughout the population via twitter, Facebook, and numerous other websites, and has led to today´s rally.

The "SlutWalk" rally, as it´s called, saw thousands of sign waving protestors dressed in stockings, miniskirts, and high heels chanting "Sluts are us!" and "Yes means yes and no means no" as they marched from Queens Park to Toronto Police headquarters.

The protesters called on police to stop blaming the victims of rape and make changes in the way rape cases are handled.

Source: here

This reminds me the remarks made by a Theology professor in Turkie. He had said "Women dressing like sluts are as guilty as those who rape them".

People who blame the victims of rape make me sick. No means no, no matter what the men or women is dressed in. (Yes, it can happen to men too)
