Wonder if they factor in the tourism sector?  I think there are many countries missing from this list as well.  Also...per capita means per person.  So is that per year/month/week/day?  Did I miss something?

It is evident that the list refers to the volumetric alcohol content of all the liquors consumed. If a person consumes 1.5 liters of alcohol per year that will amount to about 16.5 bottles of wine or about 4.5 bottles of "big" (70cc) raki each year.

Since a certain percentage of people in Turkey don´t drink at all due to religious considerations, I think this list also includes the consumption made by tourists. As of 2008, 25 million foreigners visited Turkey each year. Assuming that these people are mostly from Western countries (including Russia) and indulge in drinking especially when they are on holiday.

As for my own statistics, I drank about 200 bottles of wine and 100 bottles of beer last year. Did Turkish people drink as much as I did, we would comfortably take the lead on that list. My wine consumption alone amounts to about 18 liters of alcohol. Beginning from this year, I am giving up on alcohol. Turkey has become probably one of the most expensive countries alcoholwise.

I don´t really see how a government has any business in reducing alcohol usage, as long as the alcohol is within healthy limits. Some Turkish politicians seem to forget that their country has a constitutional freedom of religion, and thus you can´t force a "no alcohol rule" (which is religiously based) on everybody.

The world´s coolest nationalities: Where do you rank?

Given that most countries have their own share of murderers, tyrants and reality TV stars, the answer is unequivocally -- yes.

To help sort the cool from the less fortunate, we’ve compiled this list of the hippest peoples on the planet. No easy task when faced with almost 250 possible candidates.

The main problem is, of course, every nationality in the world believes it is the coolest -- with the exception of Canadians, who are far too self-deprecating for that sort of thing.

Ask a man from Kyrgyzstan which people cut the biggest dash and he will say, "the Kyrgyz." Who knows (seriously, who would know?) he might be right.

Ask a Norwegian and he will carefully finish chewing his mouthful of Thai green curry, take a swig of Thai Singha beer, gaze wistfully across the Thai resort of Phuket at the sunshine that eludes his country for 10 months of the year, then mumble softly, with a semi-suicidal lack of conviction: "Norwegians."

Equally perplexing is how to define cool. Are Italians cool because some wear tightly fitting designer suits? Are the Russians uncool because some favor outmoded sportswear and pro-wrestling hairstyles?

Are the Swiss too neutral to be cool or uncool?

Before you start punching your computer screen in nationalistic indignation at your own country´s omission from our cool list -- or the lazy stereotypes it inevitably falls back on for cheap laughs -- remember, if you care that much about being cool then you, valued reader, simply ain´t cool.

Turks
You call it "Mad Men." They call it Tuesday morning.

Given that their homeland straddles two continents, it should be no surprise that Turkish people have a fairly cool outlook on life, embracing a diverse range of cultures, cuisines and plumbing standards.

Bathroom fittings aside, the Turks display their rich heritage with casual pride -- nowhere more so than in the shabby but breathtakingly beautiful city of Istanbul, home to one of the liveliest nightlife scenes either side of the Bosphorus.

Icon of cool: Mahir Cagri. One of the Internet’s first global celebs, Cagri’s broken English overtures to women (particularly his catchphrase “I kiss you&rdquo is believed to have inspired Borat.

Not so cool: The Turkish passion for mustaches gets up some people’s noses.

This article is written by a Brittish journalist, the Brittish who ruled Canada as a colonie an then part of their Dominion until we truely became indepandent from them in 1982.  Funny how that British journalist interprets modesty as self-deprecation. Oh yes it,s true, we are a country burried under tons of snow half of the year.

In my eyes Canada is one of the coolest country in the world

Funny how he pokes at Norwa, Kyrgyzstan, Italy, Switzerland, Russia and Canada, what About UK? He could have included his own country in his stereotyping, oh well what can I say?

Steven Spielberg to make film on "so called" Armenian Genocide

January 28, 2011 | 03:16

The release of a new film about the "so called" Armenian Genocide is being discussed now. The film is expected to be released in 2015, Nouvelles d`Armйnie reports.

The National Film Center is now negotiating with Steven Spielberg and scriptwriter Steven Zaillian (Hannibal, by Brian de Palma, 2001).

"By the 100th anniversary of the "so called" Armenian Genocide we must show the world a film that would be even more impressive than Mayrik or Ararat. Armenian and foreign actors will play in the film," said Gevorg Gevorgyan, Director of the Armenfilm studio and of the National Film Center in Yerevan.

Si++ why do you write "so called" Armenian genocide?  Is it that difficult to beleive?  Should we also be saying "so called" Jewish genocide of the nazi rule?  How many other "so called" genocide have occured around the world?

No where in the source document you posted does it say "so called"  Is it because the Armenians were catholics that you say "so called" genocide?

As long as there have been humans on this planet there has been genocides.  As soon as one denomination is singled out for elimination by another denomination it is a genocide.

"So called" or not. It is not an easy problem to solve. It makes more angry both sides day by day. And it sows the hostility seeds. Sometimes it is better not to touch the wound. You think only one side is victim. It was a war and many people died from both sides.Only time can heal this wound not a surgeon.
