Then this means you spit on the soldiers who fought during the war of 1812 and defended your country from becoming another American state.

Keep in mind that many of those soldiers who fought were fighting for an idiologie and a country.

If Attaturk did not think that his country could be better he would not have fought for his convictions and Turky would still be under religious rule.

So what do we do?  Sit back and watch terranic zealots take over the world?

The exerp from the book Soldiers is the story of a soldier who fought side by side with Turkish soldiers and who was impressed by their courage and fervor.

Now it is very easy to judge actions of the past but keep in mind that in many countries, if it were not for soldiers fighting for their freedom and liberty.  The freedom of speech that many take for granted would not exists.

Makes you wonder what Kelowna has against the Turkish Army. South Koreans themselves certainly disagree with him.

His father was probably one of the translators in Korea.

its not really a "more realistic account" since facial hair is not allowed in the military. clay blair wasprobably just making up some orientalist picture in his head when he hadnt seen the actualy scene, like all the orient-enthusiastic westeners tend to do.

Türkish soldiers always take an hour off from the combat - even in the middle of a deadly engagement- to have a daily shave. Lucky, all enemies respect this old custom and never shoot a single bullet during shave hour.

No kidding !   {#emotions_dlg.lol_fast}

"They were dervishes. They had a peculiar style--one I hadn´t learned back at Benning. They lunged, drove the bayonet into the abdomen, whirled, struck down hard on top of the rifle with their with their left hand and consequently disembowled their victims."

What Turkish veterans of the Korean war tells me is that they were wise to the Chinese belief that no dead Chinese could go to heaven with a disembowled body. Hence they preferred not charging hills held by Turks, not because they were invaliant or scared to die....but because they did not want to get themselves disemboweled.

İf this seems upsettingly violent to you as you consider the issue sitting in your armchair, just remember the odds were 1 Turk to a 1000 Chinese on those hills.

kelowna, the fact that you did 2 tours does not give you the right to judge anyone here.

like I said, good for you but you are not the only one who knows anything about war just because you did 2 tours.

others here have done their military service but compare to you they do not flaunt it in everyones face.

they also do not put down and insult other TC members.

so kelowna, acute, peramedic or what ever you want to call yourself, please accept the fact that others have opinions and point of views here.

and you just said that you did a medical tour so technicly you did not see first hand but you saw the results of war when the wounded soldiers arrived at the medical compound.

after you look your enemy in the eyes and then shoot him or her, then you come and talk to us again.
