Merhaba.

What is the Turkish equivalent of the verb "to recognize" in the meaning of realizing that you really knew somebody or something before? I will give an example. This is a short dialogue in TR:

A: burası neresi

B: sen biliyorsun ki.. sen de buraya bir kez gelmişsin

(...) A guessed the name of the place, B confirmed A´s guess

A: ben farklı bir yer sanmıştım şimdi dikkatlı inceledim.

And now, how do B say "it is good that you finally recognized the place" --

iyi ki sonunda yeri ... ?

tanımak (1to meet for first time, 2to recognize, to remember)

examples:

O adamı tanımıyorum. (I don´t know that man. (I have no knowledge about that man, I don´t know who he is.))

=O adamı bilmiyorum.

Burayı tanıdın mı? (Did you recognize here/this place? (Did you remember where here is?))

in the same way:

Burayı tanıman güzel. (It is good that you recognized this place.)

=Burayı hatırlaman güzel.

(direct: Your remembering here is nice.)

this pattern bases on the -me/-ma verbal noun suffix.

tanı+ma(verbal noun)+n(possessive) = your recognizing

hatırla+ma(verb.noun)+n(possesive) = your remembering

edit:

I thought you may want to study the verbal noun suffix (-me) again :
