Turkey is a country not used to foreigner residents very much. I can't talk much about it myself, but I am sure some of our members have things to share on this topic.

I am trying to get a residence permit in Istanbul. I have been told to go to the polis in Aksaray. The problem is that there are so many people who try to apply there that many people line up from 4am!! There must be somewhere else I can go to. I am currently living in the Sultanahmet area.

Hi,
Actually i dont understand why people more want to live in Turkey..
I think the visiters dont know very well Turkey out of Antalya, all of IStanbul anda Marmaris?
They just see sunbathing, sea etc.. but what about the rest of place in Tukey? Do you know very well?

Well....maybe yes,but I know the life in TR more than perfect!
But you are right....some of the people see only the funny side from the life in Turkiye...
The life in the big cityes is really different than the life in the small inside TR...
but I think if somebody really loves TR ,every problems can be cleared!!!!
Let's be optimists!!!!

I agree that any problem can be solved. No country has a perfect life or perfect system of administration. Once people take the time to see what Turkey has to offer they will find it difficult NOT to stay there There are so many interesting places: Bursa, Çanakkale, Samsun, Trabzon, and others.
And Turkish food, turkish music, Turkish hospitality .. do I need to give more good reasons to stay?!

I lived in Turkey for about a year. People say, it is difficult to live in a country with such a different culture and traditions but I wouldn't say that. There are lots of things we could adopt from turks. Say, their deep devotion to the country, to the history which they know so well. Did you notice how much they love their families, children? I'm not idealizing turkish society as it has both good and bad people as everywhere but getting to know Turkey is definitely a good experience.

It is true, that the things that come to our (toursit's) mind when we think about Turkey are the sea, the sun, beautiful landscape, exotic plants, friendly people and many other things that you think of when you dream about a perfect vacation.A lot of us don't stay long enough to encounter cultural shock and hardships of everyday life. We enjoy seeing new sites, new people, get aquanted with new culture, it is exciting and fun. When we leave Turkey we start missing it. Missing everything we fell in love with in a short period of time, but any sane person understands that living is not vacationing (at least for most of us), and in order to survive and live, we have to work, study, do routine things that make life boring. I love Turkey, it is the most beautiful place I have ever seen, I will try to come back as often as I can, but there is no Paradise on earth

Turkiye is my paradise. I went there in 2001 to antalya and me a man working as bar manager in the hotel i was at! We were friends for a good few months. kept in touch via letters and phone calls. I went back 6 months later to the same hotel where he was still working! And we got closer. I went to live in antalya 5 months later i know it was very sudden but i knew it was right!
We got engaged on june 15th 2002 and we got married on the 11th of september 2004 in nottingham england. We live in england now but i miss turkey so much! i had 2 good years living there. we will be going back to live there in the next couple of years.
And i just want to say that the culture is fantastic, the people fantastic, food wonderful and the history fasinating!!!
I think this web site is cool!!!

I'm afra8id that Antalya is not a good example of real Turkiye. Have u ever been to eastern Anatolia? I love everything in Turkiye, but the truth is that life there is hard. You see only sea sun and friendly people (what is absolutely true) but u don't see their everyday problems, for example with money, u don't know how hard they work, very often 12 hours a day... U probably lived in hotel so u have no idea how expencive is water in Turkiye, because they have general lack of water, it's very big problem in Istanbul... and so on so on...
On the other hans, Turks are like Poles they don't appreciate what they have in their own country.

Many Turks want to go abroad, but they don't know their own country. You are very lucky, u have everything there: seas, beaches, mountains, lakes, rivers and much more, ex. Pamukkale - u can't find anything similar all over the world...

Pamukkale is gorgeous. There is no doubt that it is hard to find place as beautiful as Turkey. But I can understand how people that have a hard time taking care of much more basic things than traveling and enjoying seeing beautiful things would want to live somewhere where life is easier. Though one thing I believe, and I may be wrong, a smart educated person can be successful anywhere he or she goes. It just sometimes takes more affort in one place than in some other place.

U r right. But on the other hand, when my friends from Malatya write to me, that there is nothing interesting there, becaause there are no disco and clubs such in Poland...Then I think "hey, it's something wrong with you!". And it's not about money, because I don't believe that someone who goes from Turkey to USA has no money, 'cause it's quite expencive journey, don't u think? But they live somewhere else, because they really don't appreciate what they have...

actually out living standart isnt as higher as in europe..
that is why we want to go abroad..
we dont earn much monet any if u r working in goverment your standart would be the lower..
i know from my relatives lol
living somewhere could be as hard as in turkey..
europian countries has the poor but we believe that they could be poor as much as we are
:d
that is why we went to go abroad..

I understand that way of thinking. Most of Polish think the same (generally most of us want to go to USA or England) for the same reason. I know many Turks living in Poland and Germany, they are satisfied, but they also admit that their image of living abroad was totally different and they were very dissapointed. They still admit it's not easy and sometimes they regret living Turkey...although they are happy.

Seticio, I think you meant "İyi dost kara günde belli olur". This means "You will see who is a good friend at bad times".

You might have confused it with "Kusursuz dost arayan dostsuz kalır". And this means "One who seeks a perfect friend will end up having no friends".

I am sure you know what these mean, but I wanted to make it more understandable for the people who don't know Turkish that well

Hello everyone,

I'm a new member and found this site while searching for "Turkish Lessons" on the Internet. First of all, to the people behind admin: great job! The Turkish lessons here are much easier to follow than some others I've found on the Net!

The reason I'm learning Turkish is because I have a dream of living there someday. Well, as all of you have discussed under this topic here, Turkey is beautiful and those who visit the country will usually fall in love with it...which includes me.

I'm from Malaysia and visited Turkey in March 2005. The tour that I was on - Seven Churches and Cappadocia - took me from Istanbul, to Troas, to Izmir, then on to Konya and Cappadocia and back to Istanbul via Ankara.

I absolutely loved it and yeah, although tourists are only shown the best parts of a country (which tour operator will show its visitors the "ugly" side?), I believe that Turkey will be a good place to live in.

As mentioned in this forum, I also noticed that there's a water problem in Istanbul. The hotel I lived in had a notice asking its guests to use water wisely. Also, unlike in Malaysia, the water isn't drinkable after boiling.

Ah well, every country has its good and bad side to it...and the best way to really discover all that is - I believe - by living there?!

I would like to work in Turkey and stay there for some months to learn the language,
the only thing i found is to work as animateur in hotel........ Are there any other possibilities,
and where could i search for it ? Does someone know?
Actually i don’t know why everyone is talking about Turkey as a paradise........
So nice people? So friendly? I don’t think so....... It is there job to smile to tourists......
turks itself , as i saw them, are unreliable and really talk to much bla bla bla........ It is very hard to believe them, because they never take response for there words........ I’m not talking about all turks (!), but a lot of them are of that kind ((((((((
IMHO

I hope you should know a country where the mostly part of the people are completely responsible and honest....if you know that country, tell me.....
I think you have too stereotypes due to some bad experiences........

Such country doesn’t exist........ and it’s obvious
but every country and it’s people has it’s own charachter features, frechmen are aesthetes, germans are punctual and accurate, englishmen are reserved, spaniards are passionate
yes, these are stereotypes, but they are actually based on smth......... or am i wrong?

34.       Xesc
64 posts
 24 Apr 2005 Sun 10:57 pm

Well, I know French people who aren't aesthetics, Englishmen who are not reserved and Spanish people who are not passionate.....

Yes it can be based on something, but i think its almost impossible to state 100% exactly how is the people of a country, event in countries, there are stereotypes, between regions and even in towns or families!.....

if we start to talk about these stereotypes, we will see how is impossible to say "the people of that country is...", because , as it's said in Spanish; "everywhere people cook broad beans"....i.e., returning on the matter of this forum, the points of view about Turkey change in every person.....

If you can resume the national caracteristics of a country with a population of 60 millions people after a journey on that country...my hat will be off, and you should be antropologist or statistic maker......

That's why we say here that statistics always lie......

Oh my God.....you have completely misunderstood me......
I’m not trying to judje the country and it’s people by some stereotypes ! Definetly not! ((((((((((
”it’s almost impossible to state 100% exactly how is the people of a country” have i ever stated that ???????????

I am not going to “resume national charachter” i’ve just expressed my PERSONAL point of view, the way I have seen the country.......... it differs from your one........... but that’s ok, i belive...........

about stereotypes..............
there are some really foolish, wrong and unacceptable......... an obvious example – when some stupid person say that islam is terrorism, that all muslims are terrorists ((((((
but there are some “normal” stereotypes, when people attribute to some things special characteristics......... it’s not a rule! but a certain regularity........ and one can hardly not notice that........

i would like one more time to stress that i’ve never talked about all people
and actually so was MY impression of Turkey...... my first impression.....probably it will change, who knows...... if you have seen (or know ) other Turkey, you can show me that i am mistaken....... but if this other Turkey really exists, there is actually no need in it, i will see it myself.........insaallah

Well, i answered not only your message......i thing i spoke clearly....i only wanna say that state that the people of some nationality is unreliable (fault that isn't attached to a specific country, i believe) shows a lack of respect, but that's my point of view.......

And also in my town is very tipical talking so much (and exaggerating so much).....i enjoy talking with other people, although i don't know them....it's a way to enjoy and learn.....i never saw it as a fault....

Nothing to add....i think this way is going to nowhere.....

Turkey is definitely a unique country, full of culture and history. I have been to Turkey twice for couple of weeks and felt really connected to the country. I have been to most of the main tourist attractions in Turkey and I love it all. I used to be in the travel industry, my company is the pioneer in Turkey destination. I used to do sales and marketing for my company, mainly focusing on Turkey.

I hope to live in Turkey for at least a year in future, also to understand more about the people and lifestyle, please help me along

Hello every one,
It’s been 3 months and 2 weeks. Since I decide to accept coming to Turkey.
I think from what happened and still happening with me foreigners who wants to apply for residents in turkey will have to BE extreme patient as what Turk says (SABİR). Immigration Dep (EMNYAT) has given me a hell of time.
Protocol (rotten) so hard here. Usually when you go first time to police they smile and request of you to apply standard form of 3 pages. But to later you will have to collect 3kg of stamped papers from all over the government departments. (lol) I may laugh now because I had done all but if you asked me 3 weeks ago I would answer in very different way. I'm still so exhausted physically and financially of the procedures of Turkish residency requirements.

any way with pleaser I may provide all details to whom wants to apply for residency in turkey with all needed to save time and money.

Best regards to the team of Turkish class it’s a really cool website

i do complety agree there with you.some people never appreciate what they have until its gone right.so like you said some turks dont really appreciate the fact that they have the most beuatiful country on earth.they only see the downside on everything and always keep complaining about but never do anything about it to change things they dont like or agree with!! i can tell you nowhere in the world its perfect to live!! can i tell you that i was just watching the news here in the richest country the UNITED STATES they have 34 million people living under the poverty and many kids and babies go to bed hungry.so its not just in poor countries like africa or india.poverty exist all over the WORLD we should never forget that and appreciate what we have and remember the grass is not always greener on the other side!!would you believe me if i tell you that we have here families with 3 kids living of 250 dollars a months??yes and this is Amerika for you!! for all the dreamers out there that life is better somewhere else trust me its not.you have to work as hard and struggle as much wherever you go.

I didn't read all the pages of this forum yet. But I read Turkish poetry. I read Turkish literature. I listened Turkish songs. I ate Turkish food. I breathed Turkish air. I sang Turkish songs. I tried to speak Turkish words. I saw Turkish landscapes. I felt Turkish heartwarming people. I drank fresh orange juice on the street. I felt the sea upon my lips, just from walking on the boulevard.

No, I didn't read all the pages. No, I don't understand the Turkish culture. No, I cannot really speak Turkish. No, I never worked under Turkish job-circumstances. No, I never spent a winter in Türkiye. No, I never saw the poor ones in Istanbul. No, I don't know Türkiye like a native does. No, I do not wish to pretend I know Türkiye.

Yes, I am in love and I care about nothing!

Hehehe the Lello_in_love message was mine On an old account of which I lost the password

And don't get me wrong in this post Ofcourse I think it is important to learn the country, the culture, the language and its people And yes I do care about the social life and the politics. I'm just saying, loving something will pour sweetness over the bitterness. When one is hungry, one will eat. And I feel this hunger to get to know Türkiye like a native, I want to become part of Türkiye. And no one is gonna stop me

Dear Friends;
You know Turkey has 2 parts:
Turkey = (Turkey - Deli_kizin ) + Deli_kizin
Deli_kizin = Turkey - (Turkey - Deli_kizin )
Deli_kizin = Turkey - Turkey + Deli_kizin
Deli_kizin = Deli_kizin
(I am afraid that other part of Turkey is not enough for all class members)

Hi,

Completely new on the forum here, and have been living in Turkey now for somewhat over a year. I love this country eventhough it is sometimes very hard to adjust to the way of life.

But overall, moving to this country was the best choice I've made so far

Hello fellow peeps.

I have recently come back from Turkey over 1 month back and would like to go back there, mabeys to work or a 3 month stay.

I did meet a women out there and she keeps calling me asking when i am coming back. I have talked to a lot of people some turkish and they feel this women is just after my money (i buy sell property) or access to a visa through marrage.

With this it is driving me crazy as all want to do is fly straight over there to be with this women that i love but i am worried that all she is after is a tool for a better life for her.

All i ask realy is this common for turkish women to do?
I know i got to take a chance and jump in but a part of e says i should some how protect my self finacialy please can i have your help with this..

If you ask a visitor to Blackpool or any touristic area what they thought of England do you think they would be saying it from true experience of England?
