I have been trying to find a ticket to go to Turkey this summer, and prices are going uphill with no intention to stop any time close. If anyone is thinking of a vacation travel this summer, the earlier you buy, the cheaper prices you get

I didn't go back after I came here, I think that caused the confusion. It will be the first time I go to Turkey this summer, although I lived there for 22 years

Actually the intended language for the discussions in this forum is English so that everybody can follow. There can be questions and discussions about Turkish language, some Turkish words or phrases, but the main language should be English or most people won't understand what is going on. I see your point, but I suggest not overusing Turkish until we have enough advanced-level users to start a separate forum for advanced Turkish learners

The easiest way I find to learn a language is to live in the country and learn from the normal day to day people. When you realise that you have to learn you learn alot quicker, so try and find a job in turkey and go over for the summer, you'll have fun and come back knowing more than you did when you went out.
I might even give it a try.

Good Luck!"!

Oh, I don't want to anything yet, because nothing is for sure at all ( like my turkish friends use to say: kesin degil). I will know something maybe in July or maybe even later. Nevertheless, it would be a private visit, not a trip, I think.

I haven't been following every post in the forums for a couple of weeks, so I may have missed something, but I thought Sertab was going to spend 3 or 4 months in Istanbul, and maybe take up a course there? If you read this, Sertab, tell us about it plz?

Hi guys,
i have returned from the two-week dream journey it was far better than good! in spite of the heat i'm totally not used to, waking up at 4 am and spending hours on the bus, doing 3,000km in one week and discovering that i cannot understand anything despite my "great" 3-month-long experience with studying the language, i loved it!!!

now i am even more motivated to get down to studying Turkish than before - next year i'll be fluent u cannot imagine how proud i was having being understood by a chambermaid when i explained i needed an extra blanket!

well, all i can do now is to look at the pics i took and think of the Turkish sun when my mirror ruthlessly shows my skin coming off in handfuls...still, given a chance, i'd pack my bags even today and go back there once more!

Well, first I spent a lazy week in Side and then I set off to Antalya for one night. Next, I visited Konya and Mevlana's Mausoleum. Going north, I got to Cappadocia (2 days there)where I saw churches in Goreme, Kaymakli (underground city) and breathtaking views! On the way from Cappadocia to Istanbul I saw Salt Lake and Ankara (Ankara was a 2-hour stop only!!!) so within that short time all I saw was the museum of archeology
Then I had some time in Istanbul (actually one day and two nights so, again, not enought to see too much or get together with everybody I promised to). After Istanbul we crossed Dardanele and went to Troy. To tell you the truth, it disappointed me - I expected to be more excited by it.
As for something more stunning - if you have a chance to see Bergama and Efes - please do! I stood there with my mouth wide open and couldn't believe my eyes!
The next thing was Meryemana - the place where holy Mary is believed to have died. And, following it - Pamukkale - the white rocks really make an impression!
Finally, Hierapolis (the city of the dead) and Antalya's airport
In brief: tiring but unbelievably amazing!

As for pictures, I downloaded some so if our sayın Admin accepts them, you'll see them shorly

Hello my dear classmates,
I am glad to see you again ,Daydreamer.I can imagine how fun was your trip, doesn't matter you got tired. I wish I could go too. I am happy for you. I think we can soon see your pictures too.
Too bad you couldn't see our classmates in Istanbul. We have many of them there. It would be nice of course but it is ok, you can do that next time. I hope that one day we all can meet there.
Welcome back!

Freshman, it is not just about money when you don't go and visit your own countries interesting places. i have lived in London all my life and there are lots of places I have never been to that tourists go to. Buckingham Palace, Madam Tussauds/ Sometimes even when things are right on your doorstep you don't have time to go when you are living your normal everyday life. I can't even list the places in England that i've never been to there are so many. I bet there are people on this site who have visited England who have seen more of the interesting sites than i have

Anyway, as far as Istanbul is concerned, I have seen that place of great historical interest and natural beauty - the outside of the International departures lounge at the airport!! lol I can't wait for the day when i can visit Istanbul properly and see all the wonderful things there. Including maybe you, duskhavesi and Attila heheh Actually i think i might be going to Ankra for a few days in October which will be a great adventure for me because I will travel alone there. Insallah!

Lyndie is right, most of us didn't see places around our doorstep. I visited last month, for the first time in my life, "holly mountain" with alot of monasteries and beutiful places, which is situated only 30 kilometers from place where I live. It was amazing! I could post some pictures in my private.

By the way, freshman, what's "wage parameter"?
