How many days off are they actually allowed to have? My husband will supposedly get 7 days after the first three months but I don't know how much more he will get.
I've heard someone say a month in total, but I know that my brother in law went through his military service just three years ago and we was only allowed two weeks off in total, which would then be added in the end (so that some of his friends who had not taken time off at all could go home two weeks before him).
How many days is it now?

i was told it is a day every 2 weeks..but obviously not the case judging on what u have said..i think although they are entitled to a certain amount it depend on where they are posted and so forth....like with the mobile phones issue, some sergeants dont care and some do..

You're probably right. I think that after the first three months they have every second sunday afternoon off, but I was thinking in terms of holiday.
What has outraged me is that during your first time there sergants and other high rank officers may talk as bad to you as they please, things like "your mother is so and so and your family is so and so, you maggot". I mean, come on! This is 2006. These things belong in kindergarten.

You're probably right. I think that after the first three months they have every second sunday afternoon off, but I was thinking in terms of holiday.

yeh and if u don't do ur service they strip u of turkish nationality..personally i think the days of compulsory military service should be over..even if they are born in another country to a turkish parent they have to undergo this ..

yes but not compulsory service..apparently they are usually found in higher ranks...

ah interesting, you'd think maybe as men and women are becoming more equal that women would have to complete national service aswell. we are always fighting for equals rights as females and all lol.

yes but women got the right to vote etc in turkey long before they did in europe..they have the same rights but often their roles are still viewed differently in society..maybe thats why they are not drafted into complusory service..
