Turkey Visas for Travelers

6/20/2010

Visa Tips

Travelers must have at least six months left on their passports from the time that they arrive in Turkey. Other travel document holders need a minimum of one year from the time that they arrive in the country.

The visa booth is usually in the same room as passport control in the airport. If you need a visa it is important that you gain one before joining the queue for passport control. Trying to jump straight to passport control will only get you sent back to the visa booth with a frown.

Make sure you have your passport stamped on the same page as your visa. This usually happens by rote, but it is important, especially if you plan to take further domestic travel. You may also have problems leaving the country if your passport is not sufficiently stamped – it has been known for the Turkish authorities to detain people overnight because of this.

Remember, if your visa is valid for 90 days, that’s 90 days exactly and not three months! Don’t get caught out by staying too long.

If you have a multiple-entry 90 day visa, have plenty of time left on it and wish to leave and re-enter Turkey, you do not need to queue for another visa. You can simply walk straight to passport control. If they query this, point out your multiple entry status politely.
