I´ve used Byki as well, since they have a lot of free lists If you download the Turkish version, you get a bunch of lists (I think it was 5 lists of words and expressions). But if you search for lists on the website (keyword Turkish) you can get even more free lists! Do notice that some are made by other users, and these may contain mistakes. I just download the official lists (made by Transparent Language or TL)

Does anybody know what you typically say to people on their wedding day? Although I love Turkish weddings, I can´t make this one because of work (bleghhh) so I want to send a card.

I want to write something like "have a nice day" (as in their wedding day) and "we are sorry we can´t be there, but have fun without us!"

Perhaps some typical Turkish phrases you say to people on ehtier wedding day would also be nice...in the line of "I wish you lots of love for the rest of your life together" ... I don´t know, be creative

my question is, what is the result of what? Do people get socially isolated because they use internet a lot...or perhaps, people are lonely and that is why they use more internet, simple to find at least another form of contact. I wonder which one is the cause, and which one is the effect Unsure

you are all taking this too seriously.......... the real purpose of this advertising is to save the fair maidens from an overwhelming influx of duduismRazz

I´m a fairly fair maiden who just ...sort of tricked... her Turkish guy into buying her a golden ring Good education works much better then stupid advertising. Give a girl a brain, and she will fend off all the duduism!

By the way...don´t you all think that wearing a single golden ring just looks silly... I mean, it will look much better with a matching necklace or earrings, right?

You know what irritates me? People who talk about EU stuff and have no knowledge about the history of the EU. Ireland is one of the countries that had the most benefit from the EU when it entered, with HUGE amounts of money being pumped into the country to develop it (just like for example Spain) It´s a bit silly to be helped by an organization, for years and years and YEARS get more money from the organization then putting money into it. And then when other countries want to enter it, who are in the same position as your own country was not so long ago, go "oh nooo, we don´t want those people in our little group"

Pfff, so true. I work in an office with only women. People either assume we´re all secretaries, or that we are part of some kind of special program, and we were just hired for being women. Excuse me, we were all hired because we were the best! Other rooms are filled with men, and nobody wonders if they are hired simply because they are men No way

For people interested in the topic, you can download an article on the recent changes in women´s position in Turkey, because of the political changes in Turkey. It´s written for the UN, you can download it from the UNRISD website:

A lot of stores have a dress code. and many clothing stores have as a dress code "wear the clothes of that store". The people working at the store actually wear the clothes of the reck (hiding the tags) and put them back again at the end of the day If you look around clothing stores, any one of them, you often see that the people working there reflect the style of that store. If the style of that store is sexy, you´ll see people wearing sexy clothes. In my local h&m there´s a guy working with loads of piercings and pink hair. I´m sure that he wouldn´t be able to find a job working for m & s women´s department. Seems logical to me, although it isn´t always fair.

A lot of stores in Holland do have people working there with headscarfs, but than the headscarf is also subject to a kind of "clothing code", to match the store.
