Ouh! Interesting - I didn't know that !!! I have checked it it seems it is legal in principle in the UK, but soliciting, running a brothel or "pimping" are illegal. Basically you can be a prostitute in the privacy of your own home! lol

You learn something new every day!!!

There're restrictions to prevent the exploitation of the women, but I think it's seen a kind of freedom, but I don't think that it's still legal in the privacy of your own home. I don't know other countries, but in Turkey, there're special houses in the control of the government, and you can just work in those houses, you get a speacial card from the government, and you're registered, you can even get retired , you're checked regularly against the diseases.

Then it is different in Turkey, yes

However, I think if a woman chooses to wear things which are a little more revealing, of course she will get more people looking whether it's her intention or not.

+1. And...equally..if a man were to walk along the street wearing just a thong, he would get comments and attention too.......

lol

And be arrested for indecent exposure!

Lunila I'm with you on this...I'm a red head and it's not exactly easy to disappear into the crowd!

When I walk down the street in turkey with my friends (blondes, brunette etc) it's always me that gets singled out!

Which I can sort of understand...I don't think there are too many redheads in Turkey?

They get their shares of staring too... (I can tell you by experience).

On another forum I read a text, written by a Turkish man, that I found true but also funny (I am not allowed to copy, so I just tell you what he said):

if you are intimidated by the stares in Turkey this is a worse country to travel to (and he added he was not only talking about the female dress code).

He said that Turks stare a lot because it is their national passtime.

In western countries staring at people is considered to be a rude behaviour but NOT in Turkey. They stare at everything and everyone, anytime and everywhere.

He continued with: Most of the time staring does not have any negative meaning.

According to this man Turks stare because:

* they just like to stare
* they are curious
* they appreciate it or like it what they see
* they are surprised
* they think what they see is unusual or weird
* they think what they see is strange
* they are trying to find out how to communicate with you

and they stare because they just do not have anything else to do.
lol

Well written Trudy, this is also something that should be considered regarding to staring.I agree that in some cultures staring is more normal. In europe staring is considered rude, but in Turkey people sometimes just stare because they don't think that it's rude. Rudeness is sometgin relative. Here, even turkish women stare at others. You can feel it very much. When you get on a bus, or in any public place or you will notice a lot of stares on you from both sexes. So, apart from the man staring at woman for admiration or sexist intentions, we have to consider this side too.
