Listen to this piece of Egyptian music. To my ears there is a similarity.

I think arabesk music is more than a music. It is culture. It is a sub culture.
In Turkey, arabesk, somehow, represents the village culture being carried into cities. or people come to big cities from their villages and try to fit there. it is the culture they live in.
I will write more on the topic...continued

That may be true in Turkey, but in New York City it is listened to as well, and those people are very urban. I have some of Bulent Ersoy's music that was labeled as Arabesk. I have them because of the interesting voice and musical composition.

Maybe it's like the way soul music was thought of in the US some years ago as it was definitely looked down on. The same thing is true of Country music, although now things have changed.

As for me, I have a very eclectic music collection of everything from arabesk, Classical Egyptian, Peruvian flute, Kabuki, Shostakovitz, Ravel and so forth.

I think, although he was saying nice things but, in the end, he was singing 'arabesk' for left wing people..

I'm curious what is wrong with arabesk music? I love Arabic music and in fact have an extensive collection of Egyptian music. I do find some Turkish music has more of an Egyptian sound that some of the more classical music. How is it identified as a left wing music? Can't it just be music?

alameda, you great manipulator. this was a selective pasting.
you could also paste other her activities/charities.
im watching you, alameda.

Excuse me, Fem, just what is that supposed to mean? Is this a threat? Why would you threaten me? What are you so upset about? What I posted is part of her record, and I included a link so anyone can learn more about her works.

Do you find her work in the part I posted to be offensive? Evidently she was proud enough to state these things in public.

Better examples of beauty AND strong, principled women are Audrey Hepburn and Brigitte Bardot.

I dont think anyone has "beaten" them yet

Wonderful ladies...they are not in this game now....If we are going to bring out the oldies but goodies...how about Hedy Lamarr? Beauty and brians.

Hedy Lamarr (November 9, 1913 – January 19, 200 was an Austrian-born American Jewish actress and communications technology innovator. Though known primarily for her great beauty and her successful film career, she also co-invented an early form of spread spectrum, a key to modern wireless communication.[1]

OMG! Is this the J-Lo Appreciation Society

I didn't say she wasn't beautiful - she is very beautiful. I said I didn't like her She is a diva - in the worst possible sense of the word.

I am suprised you prize her so highly Alameda She is "used merchandise" lol lol lol

To tell the truth, I really don't spend that much time thinking about her. In fact is she had not been mentioned in this thread, I probably would not have thought about her at all. I don't have any of her albuns, and probably will never get them.

She fits quite well in the society and culture she is part of....used or not....and I can understant what the attraction is. Relative to others in her situation, she does pretty well.

Now have we not had enough of J.Lo....I realize some as yet want more.....but.... is anyone wants to continue this, it looks like she has her own thread now...
