Thread: How to say nationalities in Turkish?

ben türküm. - i am turk/turkish

ben rusum. - i am russian

ben japonum. - i am japanese

the above emphasises nationality, race origin.

ben türkiyeliyim. i am from turkey/(my home country is turkey)

ben rusyalıyım.

ben japonyalıyım.

the above emphasises geographic location, not race origin. you might be a khazak living in russia, then you are "rusyalı" but at he the same time" khazak", not "rus". you might be a chinese living in usa, then you are "amerikalı" (from location) and "çinli" (from race).

other alternates.

ben türkiyedenim. (i am from turkey)

ben rusyadanım.

ben japonyadanım.

ben türkiyeden geliyorum/geldim (i am coming from turkey/came from turkey)

ben rusyadan geliyorum/geldim

ben japonyadan geliyorum/geldim

Can anyone help me to translate these words:

1.El-hamdü li´llâhi nâsır-i evliyâihi ve kahir-i â´dâih ve´s-salât-i alâ seyyidinâ enbiyâihi Muhammedin ve âlihi ve eshâbih

2.aleyhi´s-salât-ü ve´s-selâm

This is definetely arabic but written in turkish script and spelling (arabs may not read it), some kind of praying.

El-hamdü li´llâhi nâsır-i evliyâihi: Dostlarına yardım eden Allah´a hamdolsun.
ve´s-salât-i alâ seyyidinâ enbiyâihi Muhammedin ve âlihi ve eshâbih: nebiler seyyidi muhammed üzerine, onun ailesi ve ashabı üzerine salat olsun.
aleyhi´s-salât-ü ve´s-selâm: salat ve selam onun (muhammed´in s.a.w) üzerine olsun.

ringing someone else´s mobile phone just a few seconds extremely common in turkey among young people. the main reason is it is free. you can easily reduce the phone bill. when you decided to meet someone at a certain place at a certain time, you ring his phone just two seconds, it means: i have arrived, look around, you will see me. or i am at the door, open it...

similarly, is far as i know, incoming calls are free for you, outgoing calls are free for whom you are calling. "ring my phone and quit ringing, i will call you" is actually means i dont want you to get huge amount of phone bill, i will call you back, so it will be free for you to speak on the phone.

Geçen hafta sonunda bu kitabı okudum. Correct

Geçen hafta sonu bu kitabı okudum. Correct (sounds more clear)

Geçen hafta sonuda bu kitabı okudum. Wrong (but still understandable)

I dont see anything wrong about exploring and exposing the demographics.

an example of a city demographics:

---

The racial/ethnic/cultural composition of Los Angeles as of the 2005-2009 American Community Survey was as follows:

    White: 41.3% (Non-Hispanic Whites: 29.4%)
Hispanic or Latino (of any race): 47.5%
    Black or African American: 9.8%
    Native American: 0.5%
    Asian: 10.7%
Native Hawaiian and Other Pacific Islander: 0.2%
    Other: 25.2%
    Two or more races: 2.8%

---

anyone who feel themselves american or angelinos is american or angelinos! (whatever it means!)
