a pronounced as the a in star
c pronounced as the j in jug
g pronounced as the g in gate
ğ silent!!
ı pronounced as the i in cousin
i pronounced as the i in bin
j pronounced as the j in jadore
o pronounced as the o in pot
ö pronounced as the ir in bird
ş pronounced as the sh in shirt
u pronounced as the u in pull
ü pronounced as the ew in jew
v between an english w and v

i think this is all of them, sorry if i have missed one or two out.
also note that all turkish vowels are pronounced very shortly. try to do this whilst speaking and you may fool native speakers into thinking that you too are a native speaker! this is what gave it away for me in the summer, luckily i have now passed that stage and have an OK accent hehe

"* Erkek kardeşimin biri işsiz, diğeri çalışıyor.

How is the first part of the sentence constructed? I'm having problems with the -in suffix + biri. Could it be like "one of my brothers is..., the other one is...". That's the only explanation I see, then it would be a third person possessive suffix, right? "

the -in suffix translates to english as "-'s"
eg: that cat is kadir's/ o kedi kadir'in

if the word representing the possessor however, ends in a vowel an extra "n" is placed before the "in" to ease pronouncation
eg: that cat is ceyda's/ o kedi ceyda'nın

when used with biri it makes no difference, just remember the meaning of the word biri and it will make sense to you
i hope this makes things clearer for you
oh, and by the way.. this suffix also works with vowel harmony which im sure you are already aware of
maybe a better explanation will come along but if not, i hope i could be of help

eger bir gunluk bir insan olsaydın, ne olmak isterdin?

wouldnt it be, "kim olmak isterdin"??
i know that this here is the direct translation but i would have thought that using "kim" would be better
