Really, this is silly. I asked you what the problem is and why you call the oath racist, you didn´t answer. I asked you if it was the name Turkey you find unacceptable, no answer.

Most countries have settled on a name for their country. Many of the names actually are derived from some tribe or another, but we don´t hear the people getting upset and calling the names recist. Here, take a look:

Endonyms and most exonyms for Poles and Poland derive from the name of the West Slavic tribe of the Polans

The name "England" is derived from the Old English name Englaland, which means "land of the Angles". The Angles were one of the Germanic tribes that settled in Great Britain during the Early Middle Ages.

The name "France" comes from the Latin Francia, which means "country of the Franks". There are various theories as to the origin of the name Franks: one is that it is derived from the Proto-Germanic word frankon which translates as javelin or lance as the throwing axe of the Franks was known as a francisca.[20] Another proposed etymology is that in an ancient Germanic language, Frank means free as opposed to slave.

Hungary, Atilla the Hun

In the 7th century, Bulgar tribes (likely of central Asian Turkic origin), migrated to the lower courses of the rivers Danube, Dniester and Dniepr under the leadership of Asparukh. After 670 he moved into the Balkan Peninsula with a horde of 50,000 Bulgars across the Danube and in 680 severed Scythia Minor from the Byzantine Empire. A peace treaty with Byzantium in 681 and the establishment of a permanent capital at Pliska south of the Danube marked the beginning of the First Bulgarian Empire. The Bulgars gradually mixed up with the local population, adopting a common language on the basis of Slavonic."

Nothing is silly here.

I explained zillion times why our oath was racist. You had your answers zillion times.

We are not going back and repeat them again!!

Th conclusion is as cyristal : ´our oath was racist and it has gone for good´.

That is the bottom line.

My comments above were directed to an individual(s) and not a generic comment at all anyway.

And for the nationalism vs racism: No racist call themselves racist. They all call themselves patriots or nationalists.. Important things is to find the line between.

Maybe berfin´s comment was quoted out of it´s context,i´ve been living in france for years and i ve never once been asked for my baptismal certificate.France is a lay country ,so it must have been some confessional or ethnic school.France is well disposed to people of armenian origin and universities are open to all.SORRY   to those who can present (une carte de sejour)!

Of course, I am sure there is a degree of exaggeration in their stories too..

I wish everybody could read this: http://www.radikal.com.tr/turkiye/benim_siddet_cumhuriyetim_efes_tukuruk_sirvanyan-1157843

Or anybody willing to translate? Especially the story about the posters which said ´Ermeni kopegi, tukursek bogulur", -Armenian dog, our spit will get you drowned- or the other story about what happened after a basketball match in Greece between a Greek basketball team and Turkish team Efes. -Efes lost and some Turks stoned an Ermenian boarding school-

This is an article a Turkish citizen with  Armenian origin´s view about our 90 years republic..

“It’s not clear what is going on in these places. They are all mixed up, anything can happen. As a conservative democratic government, we have to intervene. In these places, there is intelligence received by our security forces, the police department and the governorates. Acting upon this intelligence, our governors are intervening in these situations. Why are you annoyed about this?”
he added, citing complaints from neighbors living in the same apartment buildings as students.

Erdoğan portrayed such actions as part of the government´s responsibility, stressing that this had nothing to do with “intervening in people’s lifestyles.”

..
The feeling of not being accepted by different cultures in society has defined their lives, Sadık added. “I was staying at a boarding school, and the other kids called me ‘infidel.’ I didn’t know what this meant, I just thought they didn’t like me,” he said.

Berfin, a 23-year-old who is studying the question of Muslim Armenians for her Master’s degree at Oxford University, said her identity was also problematic abroad.

“When I applied to a student dormitory in France, they asked me for a baptism document, and they did not accept me when I couldn’t provide one. Yes, Christian Armenians have had huge problems, too, but they went on to live their identities in one way or another. We have had to live on through 100 years of silent desperation,” Berfin said.
..
“There is still a taboo of missionaries in this country. Even the slightest step by the Patriarch could be seen as a missionary act,” Halavurt said.

Very same people who denies other minorities basic language, religion and identity rights in Turkey, would believe in news that in EU countries they do the same to muslims!!

I think moderate islam´s antidote has never been racism and it never will be.

Agop.

There is no such thing as "moderate islam", in islam´s own terminology. This concept is an orientalist figment of Western  Christian imagination. serving their basic intention to create fractions within islam.

When there is an opportunity for racism you never fail to show up lol

I think, it is like a little monster in you, trying to come out like in the movie, the alien..

Colour?

I think moderate islam´s antidote has never been racism and it never will be.

Or the fight in Turkey was never been about islam vs nationalism-racism.

It was just about returning back to normal!!  We have been forced to wear a straight jacket for so long. Europen countries got rid of these things long time ago.

Many things we lived with were never been "normal". Most of them were added into our lives in the era when there was a single party or at the times during the coups..

Many things are changing..

The army has been removed from the politics? what happened? did we all die? NO.

They removed andimiz.. did Turkey collapse because of this? NO

First women entered the parliment with their head scarves a few days ago.. is Turkey ruled with Sheria now? NO

So less racism is always better..

Andimiz was removed in this context and it is a good thing for all of us..

You don´t understand. It may be a precondition for the daughter´s education in conservative families that the girl can study without the fear of being involved with men. So this decision may actually improve girls´ possibilities for higher education just like allowing headscarves in the university.

Some scholars say hijab and all that belongs to it actually opens the society for the female sex because a woman with a headscarf is not treated as a representative of her gender but a neutral actor.

Sometimes you have to take a step  -  if not backwards  -  at least to the side in order to acchieve progress.

Well, nobody is forcing the conservative families to put their girls into a situation in which they need to deal with men. They may prefer their daughters to be staying out of men´s eyes.. But what about others? the others who think letting girls and boys educating together or staying in the same dormitories wont harm their children? What if they think it is much better way to prepare them for the future?

The PM keeps talking with his real intentions now. This time he said "Male and females students can NOT stay in the same dormitory in the same house..."

in my opinion, male and female students shouldn´t stay in the same state dormitory. But they should be free to stay in any private dormitory or home. I dont like it but i dont interfere their life, too.

I think our PM shouls stop thinking about women and virtue of women.

It might be difficult but someone has to tell him the sheer reality: "None of his business", "none of state´s business"
