Six of the passengers who died in the plane crash are Turkish Nuclear Physists, from two well known Turkish Universities.

What a coincidence !

It is very tragic news.

Typical of Turkish melodramatics to be talking of conspiracy theories already.

...(let me guess that the US or EU will have something to do with it).....

Melodramatic or not...6 Turkish scientists are dead.

Sad for recent Turkish moves to create local cooperation on development and use of peaceful nuclear power in the area.

You may have noticed that Berkol had received Michael Hamilton Award during his short but very bright academic life.

Michael Hamilton (Mike, to his friends) was another bright scholar who taught physics in Robert College of Istanbul. I dont think Mike and Berkol ever met; Berkol was too young for that.

In summer 1976 Mike planned for a vacation in Southern Turkia. His intention was to take his girlfriend with him on his beloved motorcycle.

When the lady expressed her fear of the huge Harley, they decided to fly South, instead.

Their plane crashed at a location very close to Berkol's crash point. The couple were among the deceased.

It is terrible when anyone dies in tragic circumstances, but normaly when a plane crashes there are no survivors. Many people have road accident and live.

I agree with you to a certain extent Ciko. There is rather a selective sympathy. People react to large disasters where many people are killed (sometimes with a strange voyeurism), political death and celebrity death, but seem to ignore day to day death and cruelty that is all around them.

For example, we rarely see many posts of sympathy on this site about mercy killings, murder by "domestic violence" or women driven to suicide by the culture of their husbands. In fact, a recent post about the wonderful news of proposed women's shelter in Istanbul was either treated with scorn or ignored by members here.

I have great sympathy to the relatives of the people who were killed in that crash but I won't jump on the sensationalist media bandwagon.

Quoting Roswitha:

Alpha, I am not sure what this gentleman's point is. So far there is no physical evidence of sabotage. The investigation will continue.

The writer expresses his concern that the recent crash could have been the result of a sabotage. Your point, that no visible evidence is available to indicate existence of any sabotage, is also addressed in the article.

FROM THE ARTICLE
"As far as the former is concerned, all possible crimes and terrorist acts are to be expected; US, UK, Israeli and French secret services keep a close eye on developments in Turkey, and they will be used by the manipulators behind the scenes in all possible ways. It will be within Turkey’s interests not to uncover officially all these acts, nor to release related intelligence, as this would cause a confrontation across the board."

The article is aware that there is no visible evidence of sabotage, yet.

The writer's point is that Turks would not immediately disclose any evidence leading to sabotage, even if such evidence were found, since an immediate confrontation may not necessarily be desirable.

Does this help?
