I know that having a part-time job (such as working in a restaurant few times a week or in a clothing-shop) isn't common in Türkiye, when you go to University. In Holland though, this is very very common.

I read that as a foreign student you are not allowed to work during your study. Can someone maybe tell me more about this?

I will come to Turkiye with a pre-scolarship-visa, which means I am not an official student yet. Would that allow me to have a part-time job for the first year untill i become an official registered student?

Does anyone know where to find out about those?

According to this text, a foreigner must have a working permit in order to work, but there're exceptions who don't need a working permit and one of these exceptions is:
-" Ãœniversiteler ile kamu kurum ve kuruluşlarında bilgi ve görgülerini artırmak üzere gelen, üç ayı geçmemek ve durumunu ibraz edeceği belgelerle kanıtlamak koşuluyla bulunanlar"
The ones that come to Turkey in order to improve their knowledge or experience in universities or public associations for a period that doesn't exceed "3 months"

I think your stay is over 3 months, so according to me (I am not sure) you have to take a working permit and as I read to take the working permit you have to take working visa from the embassy.

-Ancak, Türkiye'de öğrenim amacıyla ikâmet tezkeresi almış olan yabancılar, altı ay süreli ikâmet tezkeresi almış ve bunun süresi henüz sona ermemiş olsa bile, Türkiye'nin dış temsilciliklerinden çalışma vizesi almak suretiyle ülkeye giriş yapmak zorundadırlar (UY, m. 7/2).

(And according to this paragraph above, the foreigners that have taken residence permit for the purpose of education must enter the country to take a working visa from the foreign agencies of Turkey.)

So, you must take the working visa in Turkey.

Again I'm not sure. I just slightly read the conditions, but there're so many pages and conditions. So, it's better that your bf checks the page for you:http://www.tisk.org.tr

But I'm confused now, because in the regulation of the council of higher education, it's written that foreign students including the ones that come for language course, cannot work during their education.

Meltem, you are an angel!!! Thank you very very much. I will give these pages to my boyfriend so that he can check. Indeed, my stay will be over three months, likely to be about a year and then hopefully pass the YÖS to prolong my visa (I'm quite sure I can manage that .

I will try to find out about the owrking thing, and the first thing i will do when i get back to turkey, is go to the dutch consolate in Izmir and ask what they advice me about it Thanks a lot for the information as i couldnt find any myself!!

Can someone tell me how it is to live in a dormitory and what the costs are, in general? I made a calculation of costs when i get an appartment for myself, and if i am not allowed to work, that will probably get too expensive (i will not receive money from Dutch government as i dont stay in holland), so another option is the cheaper dormitory, which is also located close to Kadir's house, which gives me a safer feeling than living somewhere alone.

Thanks for your replies again,

Esther

Are you allowed to have people spend the night with you there?

For example, during the weeks i would probably just go to class, do my shopping, visit Kadir during some days.. but in the weekend I would like him to stay over.

I think you are kidding. Şaka mı yapıyorsun? To girl dormitories even male flies are not allowed to enter (erkek sinek bile giremez) let alone male visitors to enter the building. Staying over the night there is obviously unimaginable.

There are only a few exceptions to this where inside some university campuses both male and female dormitrories are located in the same area. They might use some facilities together such as dining areas. To what city are you going anyway?
