Quoting Deli_kizin: Quoting teaschip: I don't like either, but I'm curious why do you prefer Obama over Hillary? |
To be honest I couldnt sum up here my reasons, but hope it suffices that all the times I read their statements in the newspapers, I felt Obama has more potential than Hillary. Actually, if it would a public announced fact that Hillary would become president but that actually Bill would do all the work, I would immediately vote for Hillary though. But I dont see her as fit and competent to be a president. first, I decided it had to be her, just because she is a woman. But after comparing her plans to obama's, I guess I must have liked him more.
But to be honest I dont care who it is, as long as it is not McCain! He is a danger for the USA |
McCain a danger to the U.S.? What about Obama stating he would attack Pakistan? So we need to invade another country? And if you think our ecomony is declining, just wait until Obama stepps in. Like I said at least with Hillary we know what we are getting. Obama is the real danger for the U.S. and all of our 57 states.

I have also been skeptical about Obama, but I can't help liking him the most. At least he makes sense when he speaks, he's very intelligent and he is at least standing up for the middle class, and not for the billioners. Obama seems very rational and down to earth and he's not doing as much trash-talk in order to appeal to some primitive feelings, like nationalism. He offers intelligent solutions.
I didn't hear Obama say that he'd attack Pakistan, but he also didn't say that we will stay in Iraq for another 100 years (till the oil supplies last). At least he's bringing some kind of new outlook on things. I'm sick and tired of the fear mongering about Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan... whereas our ally - Pakistan is home to more radicals then the rest of the Middle East. Of course, war is out of question, especially that all it takes to solve the middle east problem is to pull out of Iraq and stop supporting Israeli invasion of Palestine.
As far as his experience - I think this whole experience in Washington is completely overrated. The guy is 46 and did politics all his life, seems good enough to me. How much experience did Bush have that he managed to screw everything up. Also, every president has a whole army of advisers, so I really don't get what this whole mess about Obama's experience is all about (of course other then meaningless attacks that only divert attention from real issues).

I don't like or support war but I can not like or support a candidate whose very church supports hatred. Obama is a great speaker...but there isn't much behind the rhetoric. Just my thoughts..

As far as I know he left the church and firmly said that the hatred spread from Wright (as he claims he hadnt heard before..) should be stopped

I also think that it is somewhat worriesome that he had been affiliated with that church and that priest for such a long time... :-S That Wright guy does seem like a bit of a psycho, but I'm wondering how exactly would he be able to affect Obama. He said that AIDS was invented to infect black people - I am sure that Obama doesn't believe this, it's too stupid. He's an educated man, born to a white mother, I'm sure he has much more healthy and reasonable views on race.
Wright also said that America is the biggest terrorist country... well, a lot of highly educated people (like Chomsky) say the same thing. America is very violent towards other countries, has always supported cruel dictators whenever it was to their benefit, exploited countries that are weaker... etc. Still, this kind of talk is not acceptable of course, we need intelligent solutions and I think Obama is capable of them.
On the other hand, I'm not sure how important Wright is in the black community, maybe Obama joined that church to gain popularity among African Americans?
I think that if I evaluated all the things that the priests had ever said in the church where I grew up, I'd find a lot of problematic ideas as well. I'm not justifying Obama here, in fact, I find it very troublesome that he did belong to that church... these are just my thoughts.
