Robert Fisk´s column from the indepenedent:

We´ve got so used to the carnage of the Middle East that we don´t care any more  providing we don´t offend the Israelis.

...As usual, the bloodbath was the fault of the Arabs  who, as we all know, only understand force.

Ever since 1948, we´ve been hearing this balderdash from the Israelis – just as Arab nationalists and then Arab Islamists have been peddling their own lies: that the Zionist "death wagon" will be overthrown, that all Jerusalem will be "liberated". And always Mr Bush Snr or Mr Clinton or Mr Bush Jnr or Mr Blair or Mr Brown have called upon both sides to exercise "restraint"  as if the Palestinians and the Israelis both have F-18s and Merkava tanks and field artillery. Hamas´s home-made rockets have killed just 20 Israelis in eight years, but a day-long blitz by Israeli aircraft that kills almost 300 Palestinians is just par for the course.

... It was Madeleine Albright who once said that Israel was "under siege" as if Palestinian tanks were in the streets of Tel Aviv.

By last night, the exchange rate stood at 296 Palestinians dead for one dead Israeli. Back in 2006, it was 10 Lebanese dead for one Israeli dead. This weekend was the most inflationary exchange rate in a single day since ..

..Is Hamas going to say: "Wow, this blitz is awesome we´d better recognise the state of Israel, fall in line with the Palestinian Authority, lay down our weapons and pray we are taken prisoner and locked up indefinitely and support a new American ´peace process´ in the Middle East!" Is that what the Israelis and the Americans and Gordon Brown think Hamas is going to do?

Yes, let´s remember Hamas´s cynicism, the cynicism of all armed Islamist groups. Their need for Muslim martyrs is as crucial to them as Israel´s need to create them. ...

...announced that "no country in the world would allow its citizens to be made the target of rocket attacks without taking vigorous steps to defend them". Quite so. But when the IRA were firing mortars over the border into Northern Ireland, when their guerrillas were crossing from the Republic to attack police stations and Protestants, did Britain unleash the RAF on the Irish Republic? Did the RAF bomb churches and tankers and police stations and zap 300 civilians to teach the Irish a lesson? No, it did not. Because the world would have seen it as criminal behaviour. We didn´t want to lower ourselves to the IRA´s level.

Yes, Israel deserves security. But these bloodbaths will not bring it. ...And somewhere to the east  in a cave? a basement? on a mountainside?  a well-known man in a turban smiles.

From a country that has been established with a promise from one who had no right to give

Ý fail to understand by any mean, how can this be Arabs´ or Palastinians´ fault ?!

Ý dont get their logic !

This was Palastine before 1948

And what/where is Palastine now ?!

Can you find it ?!

Ýn interview with Al jazeera,Livni ´the Ýsreali minister´ was defending that Ýsrael doesnt kill civilians, just Hamas troops!

When the interviewer ashed her about the women and children and if they are also from the troops

She said,Well Ýsreal before bombing ,it declared it...so they should have left !

LEFT ?!

Where ?!

Where would they go ?!

Leave their country and land ?

Just like that ?!

As it happened at 48 ?!

Have the 48 palestinians back now to their lands ?!!

She said they want to change the game ...

That is the GAME then ?!

Evacuating Gazza from her people ?!

They want to do it again,as they did before ...claming they target only Hamas, the  terrorist, who dared and said NO,we´re NOT leaving !

Now the numbers are 350 died and 1600 injured, and evacuating Dar El þefa hospital which Ýsreal threatened to bomb too !

For God´s sake calm down Canli, maybe the article was a bit sophisticated to post here.  The first paragraph is "tongue in cheek".... he is saying that is what we ARE TOLD by the Israelis.

See the opening of the second paragraph?

"Ever since 1948, we´ve been hearing this balderdash from the Israelis "

AE,im not commenting on the article,i have read it before H post it here, agree with some not agree with some, but over all,at least he can see some logic.

Ý meant the interview with Livni,i meant what i hear at TV and see in the news, blaming Hamas and Palestinian for the current situation !

As if they were living in Heaven just before that !

Ýsrael was surrounding Gaza,no food,no medical supplies,no electricity,no anything

That was the peace Ýsrael offering...and the stupid, bloodshed Palestinian dont accept anymore....how could they ?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

How can it be their fault ,and they are dying there...everyday ?!

Where is the logic when you watch CNN or read that,Hamas should stop their attack, and Ýsrael have the right to defend itself ?!

When you read things like

What if Mexico fire at US doesnt US has the right to defend itself ?

Ýs Palestine Mexico and Ýsrael US ?

Writting new history now ?!

Or just fooling themselves ?!

Ýts exactly as if,Mexico took over most of US and when Americans defeding their beings, and the rest of their lands,Mexico bombing them...

So ,is it the American´s fault ?

They should stop violence ?!!!

There is nothing wrong with discussing these things.  People disagree....so what?  Hiding heads in the sand and pretending we don´t know what happened doesn´t bring anyone back either but just maybe it can bring some kind of understanding.

Well said.  No matter how long this thread remains open, none of us will learn anything further about members than we already know.  Same old arguments, same "insults", same "hatred", same "fundamentalism", same "extremism", same labels as usual.

AlphaF posted a link early on in the year, to enable us to sign a petition.  I´m posting the latest request now.  Anyone who hasn´t heard of the organisation can read about it below.  Feel free to click on the links and sign if you wish, no pressure, it´s up to the individual.  I´m sure many have already done so.

"Dear friends,

The Gaza crisis has exploded -- put your name to our emergency petition demanding a ceasefire. We´ll deliver it immediately to the UN Security Council, the Arab League, the US and other world leaders!
As we watch the Gaza bloodshed with horror, appalled at how the crisis is spiraling further out of control, one thing is clear -- this violence will only lead to further civilian suffering and an escalation of the conflict.

There must be another way. Over 280 are dead so far in the Gaza Strip and hundreds more injured -- rockets are striking Ashdod deep inside Israel for the very first time, and the sides are mobilising for invasion. A global outcry has begun, but it´ll take more than words -- the immediate violence won´t end, nor will wider peace be secured, without firm action from the international community.

Today, we´re launching an emergency campaign which will be delivered to the UN Security Council and key world powers, urging them to act to ensure an immediate ceasefire and address the growing humanitarian crisis -- only with robust international oversight and action can civilians on all sides be protected and real steps be taken toward a wider peace. Follow this link now to sign the emergency petition and send it to everyone you know:

http://www.avaaz.org/en/gaza_time_for_peace/?cl=161915027&v=2606

After Gaza´s bloodiest day in recent memory and eight or more years of ineffective US and global diplomacy, we need to get world leaders to do more than issue statements if they´re to ensure a lasting ceasefire.1 Through the UN Security Council and other international bodies, the world can provide the help and pressure needed to stop the violence and change the situation on the ground in Gaza -- preventing the rockets and incursions, re-opening crossing-points under international oversight so that instead of weapon-smuggling, the 1.5 million ordinary people of Gaza can get the fuel, food and medicines they so desperately need.

All sides to the conflict will continue to act as they have in the past if they believe that the world will stand by and allow them to do so. We mobilised for a ceasefire in 2006´s Israel-Lebanon war and succeeded, but this time the international community must not delay -- let´s raise a truly worldwide outcry. 2009 is a year that things can be different. As we face this crisis, and the possibilities of a new year, it´s time for us everywhere to work together to stop this violence.

With hope and determination,

Brett, Ricken, Alice, Ben, Pascal, Paul, Graziela, Paula, Luis, Iain and the whole Avaaz team

1 Further actions could include: a formal resolution from the Security Council rather than issuing a press statement as was done on 28 December 2008; explicit private and public international pressure on the parties to end the hostilities including developing clear terms for the resumption of negotiations; proper international oversight of the Rafah border; and in time, a detailed Security Council resolution setting out the terms in international law for a permanent peace between Israel and Palestine. For background, see this Jerusalem Post article, "No international pressure to end op": http://www.jpost.com/servlet/Satellite?cid=1230456497503&pagename=JPost/JPArticle/ShowFull)

Just because people don´t post about issues, doesn´t mean they are hiding their heads in the sand and pretending they don´t know what has happened.

I´ve said all I need to say here.

I learn new things about people here all the time, no matter how many things they have posted or how adamant they are in their beliefs.   And when issues are discussed you can get a welll rounded perspective....if you just look for it....no matter what point of view is posted.

It´s up to each person to glean things out of what is said.....if you aren´t able to do that, then you can say that "YOU" cannot learn anything....but you can´t say "none" of us do.
