It may be just a strange English custom, but we don´t wish people happy new year until January 1st where I come from

then how come its in every card written: "merry xmass and happy new year!"?

 Silly!  That is when you are unlikely to see people until afterwards....and it kills two birds with one stone

Interesting... so according to English customs you don´t wish happy new year till january 1st, except of course all the time you make that wish, eh? lol strange indeed.

what is wrong with wishing someone a Happy 2009 or even a 2010 in advance?
