* Turkish citizen beaten to death in Belgium prison. Mikayil Tekin, 31, was detained for quarreling with the traffic police on August 7. The prison administration said he was chocked while eating, but other prisoners displayed disobedience saying he had been tortured.

* The autopsy report of Mikail Tekin, an ethnic Turkish kept in Belgium´s Jamioulx Prison who lost his life last Saturday, lists his cause of death as "physical violence."

* Human rights groups have harshly criticized the poor conditions in Belgian prisons. Some 10,000 detainees and convicts are serving sentences in prisons in which the bed capacity is reported as 8,200.

The prison administration made a statement following the death of 31-year-old Tekin, who was detained on Aug. 7 as a result of a quarrel involving traffic police.

While the prison administration announced the cause of death as "choking while eating," other prisoners protested, claiming that he was subjected to torture while being transported to an isolation cell.

Prosecutors stated that marks of violence had been detected on Tekin´s body following the autopsy report and detained three guards. Prosecutors said the investigation into the case is continuing.

Guards at Jamioulx Prison went on strike yesterday after their three coworkers were detained.

The Belgium Human Rights Foundation (LDH) released its comprehensive annual report earlier this year signaling an increase in human rights violations in the country. Noting that while it speaks out frequently about human rights in other countries.

- Turkish Parliament Demands Explanation on Death in Belgian Prison

The Turkish Parliament has asked the Belgian parliament for detailed information on the death of a Turkish prisoner in Belgium´s Jamioulx Prison last week following the release of an autopsy report listing the cause of death of prisoner Mikail Tekin as "physical violence."

Zafer Uskul, head of Parliament´s Human Rights Commission, sent a letter to the head of the Justice Commission at the Belgian parliament via the Foreign Ministry, the Anatolia news agency reported on Wednesday.

Allegations of the violation of the right to life, which is the most fundamental human right, are saddening, Uskul said in his letter. Asking for information on the authenticity of the allegations, Uskul said they also expected to be informed concerning the judicial action taken to punish those responsible should the allegations prove to be true.

Human rights groups have harshly criticized the poor conditions in Belgian prisons. Some 10,000 detainees and convicts are serving sentences in prisons in which the bed capacity is reported as 8,200.

- OSCE Expert: Guantanamo Better Than Belgian Prisons

"Inmates at Guantanamo Bay prison are treated better than in Belgian jails", an expert for Europe´s biggest security organization said on 6 March 2006 Monday after a visit to the controversial U.S. detention center.

"At the level of the detention facilities, it is a model prison, where people are better treated than in Belgian prisons," said Alain Grignard, deputy head of Brussels´ federal police anti-terrorism unit.

He served as expert on a visit to Guantanamo Bay in 2006 by a group of lawmakers from the assembly of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe´s (OSCE). Grignard´s comments came less than a month after a United Nations report said that Guantanamo prison detainees faced treatment amounting to torture.

you can`t take criticism? are you from Belgium? or are you just defending your fellow christians?

what`s your point?

you would hear it if a christian was killed in a Turkish prison, but you won`t want to hear it when a Turk gets killed in a christian country, will you?

Here´s an idea....why don´t you write to the "Christian media" and ask them!

Ohhhh I know why...cuz you think you can stir things up here with all of your slanted posts.  Well tams dearest.....you have completely overplayed your hand.  You are like the boy who called wolf too many times.  You completely lost all crediblity.

My point is, offer an opinion or a comment when you reprint an article. Otherwise you leave me to assume you´re just trolling, Tami.

And don´t presume you know what I´d rather hear or not hear about.

I find this comment very discriminatory.  It´s not funny and I am extremely offended by it.  I know you probably don´t care how insulting this is and maybe in your view, you feel GG deserved it, but teasing a woman about menopause (whether she is going thru it or not) is like teasing a man about erectile disfunction (whether he has it or not).  I don´t think we want to go there.   This just isn´t cool or gentlemanly.

I agree. This is a very inconsiderate joke (in case it is one)...

Well even if she does (which is not in my view) it shows your childiness to ´repay´ her.

It is typical of tami to want to deflect any questions on his motives by "insulting" the women who question him.

I am not, however offended or insulted by the routine menopausal comments he tosses my way.  I am sure this is a great disappointment to him since he clearly thinks every woman should cringe at the mere mention of the word.   Menopause is nothing to feel shame for or embarrassment over.   It is a natural stage in every womans life...........so long as she is lucky enough to live that long.

If tami wants to concern himself so much with my life stage that he comments on it every chance he gets...so be it.  I am not yet menopausal but when it comes......I am hoping that the hot flashes will finally be a relief to my heating bills because I am ALWAYS cold!!!!  <img src='/static/images/smileys//lol.gif' alt='lol'> (fast)

I hear what you are saying GG and I agree with you.....but it really chaps me when men blame our "hormones" for everything from our moods to our speaking up about issues.  It just proves how uninformed some people are about women in general.

It is up to mothers of young boys to educate them on this subject.   When you get someone tami´s age it is already a lost cause.   We can speak about it til we ARE actually menopausal and he still won´t have a clue....it clearly wasn´t engrained in him.   He thinks he is hitting low and that is all he is concerned with.

Give the boy a break, he apparently heard that it is a tragedy to every woman. If that is his experience then I can only feel sorry for him or his mom. Actually, I kind of wish I was already past menopause. A few things less to worry about lol

Tami, I am not menopausal yet but I still agree with GG. What can my condition be? It´s not PMS, it´s too late for post-natal hormonal bomb...any chance you can enlighten me?

At last? I have never claimed to be normal whatsoever! Do you think a normal person would refute your hypothesis about global Christian conspiracy aimed at Turkey in particular? Or never believed in UFO? Or disbelieved the fact that Elvis is still alive? I don´t think so...

Thanks for the suggestion I should see a shrink, I definitely would if I wasn´t having so much fun being abnormal
