Urfa Türküsü

Urfa Song

Urfa´nın etrafı dumanlı dağlar aman aman

There are cloudy mountains around Urfa

İçerim yanıyor yar yar gözlerim ağlar

My inside burns, my eyes cry.

Benim bu derdime bulunmaz derman aman aman

For this trouble of mine can´t be found a cure.

Gezme ceylan bu dağlarda seni avlarlar

Don´t wander around these mountains gazelle, they will hunt you

Anandan babandan yardan ayrı koyarlar

They will seperate you from your mother and father

Urfa dağlarında gezer bir ceylan aman aman

A gazelle wanders around Urfa mountains

Yavrusun yitirmiş yar yar ağlıyor yaman

She lost her baby, she cries a lot

Benim bu derdime bulunmaz derman aman aman

A cure can´t be found for this trouble of mine

Gezme ceylan bu dağlarda seni avlarlar

Don´t wander around these mountains gazelle, they will hunt you

Anandan babandan yardan ayrı koyarlar

They will seperate you from your mother, your father and your beloved.

This poem is a şathiye. Şathiye is a kind of folk poem. They are funny and absurd but they also tell some secrets of sufism in a metaforical way.

Bir Kaz Aldım

I Bought A Goose

Bir kaz aldım ben karıdan
Boynu da uzun borudan
Kırk abdal kanın kurudan
Kırk gün oldu kaynadırım kaynamaz
I bought a goose from a woman
Its neck is taller than pipe
It dries 40 dervishes´ blood
For 40 days I have boiled it, it hasn´t got boiled

Sekizimiz odun çeker
Dokuzumuz ateş yakar
Kaz kaldırmış başın bakar
Kırk gün oldu kaynadırım kaynamaz
Eight of us carry wood
Nine of us make a fire.
Goose looks at us lifting up its head
For 40 days I have boiled it, it hasn´t got boiled

Kaza verdik birkaç akça
Eti kemiğinden pekçe
Ne kazan kaldı ne kepçe
Kırk gün oldu kaynadırım kaynamaz
We gave a few coins for goose
Its flesh is more than its bones
No caldron, no ladle has remained
For 40 days I have boiled it, it hasn´t got boiled

Kaz değilmiş be bu azmış
Kırk yıl kaf dağını gezmiş
Kanadın kuyruğun düzmüş
Kırk gün oldu kaynadırım kaynamaz
This is not a goose, it is crazy
It wandered around Kaf mountain 40 years
It prepared its wings and tail
For 40 days I have boiled it, it hasn´t got boiled

Kazı koyduk bir ocağa
Uçtu gitti bir bucağa
Bu ne haldir hacı aga
Kırk gün oldu kaynadırım kaynamaz
We put goose on a stove
It flied away to another side
What is this situation Hacı Aga?
For 40 days I have boiled it, it hasn´t got boiled

Kazımın kanadı selki
Dişii koyun emmiş tilki
Nuh Nebi´den kalmış belki
Kırk gün oldu kaynadırım kaynamaz
My goose´s wing is selki
It is like a fox sucked an ewe
Maybe it has remained since Noah
For 40 days I have boiled it, it hasn´t got boiled

Kazımın kanadı sarı
Kemiği etinden iri
Sağlık ile satma karı
Kırk gün oldu kaynadırım kaynamaz
My goose´s wing is yellow
Its bone is bigger than its flesh
O woman may you not sell again enjoying good health
For 40 days I have boiled it, it hasn´t got boiled

Kazımın kanadı ala
Var yürü git güle güle
Başımıza kalma bela
Kırk gün oldu kaynadırım kaynamaz
My goose´s wing is red
Go away good bye
Don´t be a trouble anymore
For 40 days I have boiled it, it hasn´t got boiled

Suyuna biz saldık bulgur
Bulgur Allah deyü kalgır
Be yarenler bu ne haldir
Kırk gün oldu kaynadırım kaynamaz
We put rice in its water
Rice flied out saying Allah
O dervishes! What kind of sitiuation is this?
For 40 days I have boiled it, it hasn´t got boiled

Kaygusuz Abdal n´idelim
Ahd ile vefa güdelim
Kaldırıp postu gidelim
Kırk gün oldu kaynadırım kaynamaz
What shall we do Kaygusuz Abdal?
Lets keep our promise
Lets go taking the coat
For 40 days I have boiled it, it hasn´t got boiled

Kaygusuz Abdal

Exactly. Maybe the hardships of sufi way are told. Goose symbolises something.

sacrifice maybe...

It can be many things. Maybe it symbolises our ego. It is not easy to get rid of it
