I hope you don´t mind me saying - it is just my opinion - but there is something typical to Turkish melancholy in the lyrics of this song: representing inanimate things as metaphors of a human being. I have heard it so many times, even in everyday conversations.
Needless to say it hits me like a tidal wave.
------------------------
Şu dağlarda kar olsaydım olsaydım,
bir asi rüzgâr olsaydım olsaydım,
arar bulur muydun beni beni,
sahipsiz mezar olsaydım olsaydım?
I wish I was snow on top of those mountains,
I wish I was a stormy wind.
Would you search for me and find me,
if I was a grave with no owner?
------------------------------
Şu yangında har olsaydım olsaydım,
ağlayıp bizâr olsaydım olsaydım.
Belki yaslanırdın bana bana,
mahpusta duvar olsaydım olsaydım.
I wish I was the fury in that fire,
I wish I became weary of crying.
Maybe you would lean against me
if I was a wall in the prison.
------------------------------
Şu bozkırda han olsaydım olsaydım,
Yıkık perişan olsaydım olsaydım.
Yine sever miydin beni beni
simsiyah duman olsaydım olsaydım?
I wish I was an inn on that steppe,
I wish I was demolished and wretched.
Would you love me again
if I was smoke, black as soot?
----------------------------------
Şu yarada kan olsaydım olsaydım,
dökülüp ziyan olsaydım olsaydım.
Bu dünyada yerim yokmuş yokmuş.
Keşke bir yalan olsaydım olsaydım.
I wish I was blood in that wound,
I wish I was poured out and went to waste.
There is no place for me in this world.
I wish I was a lie.

There are very interesting
dilek-şart kipi structures also in these verses. I can try to explain them if another learner is interested.
Great translation.
