İğde is a a kind of fruit. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Olea_oleaster It says wild olive- or feral olive.

The shop round the corner promised me that he will bring keçi boynuzu   too..

Keçi boynuzu  is translated as goat horn but actually it is nothing to do with the goats. It is carob tree pods.

Interestingly when I was looking for a picture, what I learnt is that the weight of the seeds you get from these pods never changes. The seeds used as weight by Arabs, Selcuks and Ottomans. 16 seeds were making a "dirhem" (1 dirhem =3.2 grams)

We have a Turkish phrase "2 dirhem 1 cekirdek". It is used for people who wear make up or smart clothes. Cekirdek means seed. That cekirdek is the seed of the goat horn I was talking about in the beginning

Some would say you have to have it with many mezes including fish:

Not that I complain but I find it quite ceremonial (and a hard work).

The simplistic way to enjoy it just with feta cheese and some melon.

What about the cheese and the melon only? Uncivilized?

Not uncivilized. We call those ´meze düşmanı´

´Can erik´ zamani. -Time of unripe plumb.

It sounds weird but most of the Turks will appreciate this.

"Pass the parcel. That´s sometimes all you can do. Take it, feel it and pass it on. Not for me, not for you, but for someone, somewhere, one day. Pass it on, boys. That´s the game I want you to learn. Pass it on."

A great quote from a great  movie "history boys"

God knows why  people get offended when they make racist comments and then being reminded that only racist people would do that!!
