Cry Me A River: The 20 Most Heartbreaking Songs Of All Time!

"Moon River" from the film Breakfast at Tiffanys.

"Strangers in the night" by Frank Sinatra

20 The Everly Brothers: "So Sad (To Watch Good Love Go Bad)," from It´s Everly Time (Warner Brothers, 196 A descending scale begins a classic of sad restraint: "We used to have good times together but now I feel them slip away/It makes me cry to see love die: so sad to watch good love go bad..."

19 The Band: "It Makes No Difference," from Northern Lights - Southern Cross (Capitol, 1975) The most artless--and most piningly desolate--love song Robbie Robertson ever wrote, sung with hopeless tenderness by Rick Danko, The Band´s most artless singer. "I love you so much, and it´s all I can do/Just to keep myself from telling you/That I never felt so alone before..."

18 Randy Crawford: "One Day I´ll Fly Away," single (Warner Brothers, 198 "When will love be through with me?" The genius of this synthpop classic is the way it starts out as a bitchfest--Marc Almond coming on like Dusty Springfield´s petulant little sister--and then suddenly flips into a deep, engulfing sadness.

17 Soft Cell: "Say Hello, Wave Goodbye," single (Some Bizzare, 1982) Billie is bThe genius of this synthpop classic is the way it starts out as a bitchfest--Marc Almond coming on like Dusty Springfield´s petulant little sister--and then suddenly flips into a deep, engulfing sadness.

16 Billie Holiday: "Don´t Worry ´Bout Me," from Lady In Autumn (Verve, 1959) Billie is being so damn reasonable: "Why not call it a day the sensible way, and still be friends," she sings.

15 Love: "Alone Again Or," from Forever Changes (Elektra, 1967) Love’s most famous recording: written, ironically, not by leader Arthur Lee but by po´ little rich boy Bryan Maclean. "I heard a funny thing, somebody said to me/‘You know that I could be in love with almost everyone/I think people are the greatest fun’.

14 The Pretenders: "I Go To Sleep," from Pretenders II (WEA, 1981) What a concept: a song about missing an ex-partner sung by your future ex-partner. Written by Ray Davies and sung by Chrissie Hynde, this gives a peek into the--one assumes--charred lansdscape of the Davies/Hynde relationship. A perfect marriage of arrangement (including a beautiful French horn riff), lovelorn vocals and passionate lyrics: "I was wrong, I will cry, I will love you ‘til the day I die/You alone, you alone and no-one else/You were meant for me..."

13 Dusty Springfield: "I Just Don´t Know What To Do With Myself," single (Phonogram, 1964) Springfield here performs a rare feat: outperforming Dionne Warwick´s own version of a Bacharach and David classic. Moving from forlorn whimper to gutsy roar, she lives the song to the full. "Going to the movies only makes me sad; parties make me feel as bad/When I´m not with you, I just don´t know what to do." Decimating.

12 Little Feat: "Long Distance Love," from The Last Record Album (Warner Brothers, 1975) "Does she know she hurt me so?" How did a sad ballad get so funky and stay so sad?

11 Smokey Robinson & the Miracles: "The Tracks Of My Tears," from Going To A Go-Go (Motown, 1965) Bob Dylan called Smokey "America’s greatest living poet" with good reason.

10 Bonnie Raitt: "I Can´t Make You Love Me," from The Luck Of The Draw (Capitol, 1991)

9 Lorraine Ellison: "Stay With Me," single (Warner Brothers, 1966) "No, no! I can´t believe!! You´re leaving me!!!"

8 Abba: "Knowing Me, Knowing You," single (Epic, 1977) "No more carefree laughter/Silence ever after..."

7 Otis Redding: "I´ve Been Loving You Too Long," single (Volt, 1965) "You´re tired, and your love is growing cold..."

6 Sinead O´Connor: "Nothing Compares 2 U," single (Chrysalis, 199 Forget the famous video: it´s all already here in Sinead´s bruised rendition--simultaneously dazed and defiant--of Prince´s perfect ballad. "I could put my arms around every boy I meet..." But you know she won´t.

5 The Righteous Brothers: "You´ve Lost That Lovin´ Feelin´," single (Philles, 1964) "You never close your eyes anymore when I kiss your lips":

4 Kate and Anna McGarrigle:
"Heart Like A Wheel," from Kate and Anna McGarrigle (Warner Brothers, 1975) "It´s only love/That can wreck a human being and turn him inside out..."

3 Frank Sinatra: "I´m A Fool To Want You," from Where Are You? (Capitol, 1957) "But then would come the time that I would neeeeeed you..."

2 Roy Orbison: "It´s Over," single (Monument, 1964) "Your baby doesn´t love you anymore…"

1 George Jones:
"He Stopped Loving Her Today," single (Epic, 1981) "He said I´ll love you ´til I die..."

Mising You by John Waite (Bad English)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9k4TGZ5NUnA

Everytime I think of you i always catch my breath

And i´m still standing here and you´re miles away

and i´m wondering why you left.

And there´s a storm that´s raging through my frozen heart tonight

I hear you name in certain circles and it always makes me smile

I spend my time thinking about you

and it´s almost driving me wild

and there´s a heart that´s breaking

Down this long distance line tonight

I ain´t missing you at all since you´ve been gone away

I ain´t missing you at all no matter what i might say

There´s a message in the wire and i´m sending this signal tonight

You don´t know how desperate i become

And it looks like i´m losing this fight

In your world i have no meaning though i´m trying hard to understand

And it´s my heart that´s breaking

Down this long distance line tonight

I ain´t missing you at all since you´ve been gone away

I ain´t missing you at all no matter what my friends say

And there´s a message that i´m sending out

Like a telegraph to your soul

And if i can´t bridge this distance

Stop this heartbreak overload

I ain´t missing you at all since you´ve been gone away

I ain´t missing you at all no matter what my friends say

I ain´t missing you . . . .

This song gets to me every time I hear it. It was written by the husband of Selena, a popular singer in the US, who was murdered by the head of her fan club.

What a beautiful tribute to have someone write such moving things for you………

Best I can - Chris Perez Band

When I thought I had your heart

To keep forever

Now I live with how it is

Nothing lasts never

I´m never in a place for too much time

I try to leave my troubles far behind

Everything I did, I did for you

Now there´s nothing left for me to do

I´m never gonna fall in love again

The way I love you

You know it´s so damn hard letting go

Standing here holding my heart in my hands

Yes I am

Trying to live every day the best I can, yeah

You know it´s so damn hard letting go . . . of you

Every day´s a brand new start

Of a pain never ending

I can´t erase this lonely heart

It keeps on remembering

Every day I live, I live with you

And with all the things we´ll never do

Heaven holds a place for souls like mine

Trying to leave my troubled past behind

You know it´s so damn hard letting go

Standing here holding my heart in my hands

Yes I am

Trying to live every day the best I can

You know it´s so damn hard letting go

You know it´s so damn hard letting go . . . of you

I like this song of her:

I Could Fall In Love - Selena

I could lose my heart tonight
If you don´t turn and walk away
´Cause the way I feel I might
Lose control and let you stay

´Cause I could take in my arms
And never let go

I could fall in love with you
I could fall in love with you

I can only wonder how
Touching you would make me feel
But if I take that chance right now
Tomorrow will you want me still

So I should keep this to myself
And never let you know .............

One Light Burning -- Richie Sambora

Baby Blue ------------- George Strait

My Immortal ---------- Evanescence

Dante´s Prayer ------- Loreena McKennitt

The River ------------- Bruce Springsteen

: >

Sad songs contain so much emotion.....they are usually

related to, or tend to remind us of a very somber time in our lives...

They may be connected to...childhood...family...death...friends...

...lovers...or nothing at all.......just...you...

Yes, a sad song just for you

At times, lyrics alone may capture one´s very soul.....

The story told in the song may be enough, but usually it

hits you when you believe that song was written about you.

...Just for YOU...

Those captivating letters that seem so innocent until they are

connected just so.....just right.....They can pierce one´s heart.

Couple those keenly placed words with a couple of piano keys.....

and the tears flow.....So beautiful.

Emotional scars in one´s life can ´adopt´ a song at that time

and that song shall forever remind you and cast in concrete

those hurt feelings...bringing them back over and over.....

Some touching songs hold lyrics that seem to breathe......

You see lyrics in the car...the sky...anywhere.....everywhere.

I see many of them in the rain.....

Other sad songs can create living, breathing tears. Strange?...No.

Then there are those sad songs that breathe life life back INTO you.....

Those that seem to do it all.....there are many...then again there

are many of us that seem to get it......
