Thread: Making new words

Merhaba,

Do you mean making new words by adding suffixes after words?

Such as adding a suffix after a verb and making a noun:

gez(mek)(to tour) + -i = gezi (tour, journey)

or what is it?

Could you also use "arzu etmek" for wish? Or is that another context of wish? Also, "ölmüş olmayı" can you break that down for the meaning? Because if I didn´t had not seen the English first, I would probably read that sentence in the complete wrong context and structure.{#emotions_dlg.angel}

teşekkür ederim

"arzu etmek" can be used as well, but it is mostly used when you desire something.

"You don´t die from a broken heart, you only wish you did."

"Kırık bir kalpten ölmezsin, sadece ölmüş olmayı dilersin."

"you did" in the last part is a structure that we don´t have in Turkish. For this reason, we need to write verb again, especially when it has a different tense. "you did" refer to past form of the verb "to die". and it hasn´t really happened, it is only a wish refering to past. so we do not use -di suffix for this past tense, but we use -miş. "ölmüş olma" means "being dead" and I used this way to make the translation correct.

hi my friend , i hope you and your family are all well. i have not been to side this year yet . but hope to come soon , ( not that you are bothered ) but i thought i would say hi and hope that every thing is ok with you.

Selam arkadaşım. Umarım sen ve ailen iyisinizdir. Bu sene Side´de değilim henüz ama gelmeyi umuyorum. Rahatsız olacağından değil ama bir selam vermeyi düşündüm. Umarım her şey yolundadır.

Bu dünyada herkes ne ekerse onu biçer. İyilik yaparsan iyilik bulursun, kötülüğünün neticesi ise yine kötülüktür. Buğday ekilen yerde arpa biter mi hiç? O halde şuna buna bahane bulma, iyi kötü her ne biçiyorsan bil ki kendi ektiğinden başkası değildir. Gönül kazanmak istiyorsan sevgi tohumu ek, cenneti kazanmak istiyorsan yollara diken serpmekten vazgeç..

In this world everyone reaps what they sow. If you do favor, you´ll find favor; the result of evil is also evil. Does barley ever grow where you plant wheat? Then do not find excuses for this and that; know that whatever you reap good or bad, it is nothing but what you sowed. If you want to win hearts, sow love seeds; if you want to win paradise, stop scattering thorns on roads.

I accept your appologies but I cannot forget that I felt I was worthless to you. You said you forgot your dreams with me, I am curious, what dreams were those?

özrünü kabul ediyorum ama bunu asla unutamam. senin için bir değer ifade etmediğimi hissettim. bana dair kurduğun hayalleri uttuğunu söyledin.  endişeleniyorum . ne tür hayallerdi bunlar ?

merak ediyorum

There is "balım" some people use recently, means "my honey" comes directly from English "honey". I don´t like that

There are şekerim (my sugar, my candy) and güzelim (my beautiful) but these can also be used for any friend.

And here are some others which are used by men to women:

Gülüm (my rose)

Çiçeğim (my flower)

İnci tanem (my pearl drop)

Hayatımın anlamı (the meaning of my life)

Bebeğim (my baby)

Deniz gözlüm (my sea-eyed one) (to someone who has blue eyes)

Kara gözlüm - kömür gözlüm (my black eyed one - my coal eyed one) (to someone who has black eyes)

Vazgeçilmezim (my essential, my indispensable)

Kurabiyem (my cookie)

Not all of these are common but can be used
