I used ´Teach Yourself Turkish´ by David Pollard and it´s worked wonders, although obviously it can´t cover everything. But it does go into detail on grammar which is essential in my opinion.

Having a lot of trouble here, getting very frustrating. I understand the "dik" suffix and it´s meaning, however, I can´t figure out which contexts to use it in. Does anyone know any links to lessons regarding it´s usage?

For example, I know something like "gittiğim zaman" means "when I go", so would "yarın gittiğim zaman, arabayı sürebilir miyim?" make sense?

I´ve been told it´s more correct to say something like "yarın biz gidince, arabayı sürebilir miyim?"


Is there a rule of thumb I can stick to?

Can someone translate and explain the translation for me into English please?

Ok guys, little help needed.

When you add the above endings onto the short infinitive of verbs, can you only use them in the past tense?

For example (These might be wrong..):

çalışdikten sonra, televisyonu seyrettim
(AFTER working, I watched the television).

çalışmadan önce, yatağa gittim.
(BEFORE working, I went to bed)


Is it possible to use these types of endings for present tense or future tense phrases? The English equivalent would be "After working I'm going to bed". Or, "After I have flown, I'm going to sleep".

Hey guys, I'm having trouble understanding when it's appropriate to use 'olarak'.

I know in English it's meaning is roughly translated as 'As'... for example: turist olarak gidiyorum (I'm going as a tourist - forgive minor mistakes.. learning).

However, in what other contexts can it be used? I wanted to say "I'm happy as a student"... and thought saying "ogrenci olarak memnunum" would make sense, but apparently it doesn't... why?

How come you get to study Turkish at your college?
