sahiden  mi ?   = Really ?

öyle mi ?        =  is that so  ?  Really  ?

Vallaha mı   = Really ?

Kaç doğumlusun ? ------> What year you were born ?

Eğitim durumun ne ? ------> What is your education ?

Ne mezunusun ? -----------> What is the final school you graduated from ?

Üniversite mezunuyum ------> I am university graduate.

kafayı yemek = [ to eat head ] to go mental, to act like mad person, to lose mind.

Kafayı mı yedin sen ? Niye öyle davranıyorsun ? ----> have you gone mad ? why are you behaving like that ?

kafayı sıyırmak = to go mental.

delirmek = to become insane, to go mad

delirtmek = to make someone mad

Beni delirtiyorsun -----> you make me mad

Deli gibi sevmek -----> to love madly

Seni deli gibi seviyorum -----> I love you madly

Meşhur = popular, famous

Ankara´nın meşhur yemeği nedir ? ------> What is the popular food of Ankara ?

Ünlü     = famous

Ünlü şarkıcı ----> popular singer

tanınmış = well known, famous

O adam tanınmış  bir işadamı ----> That man is a well known business man.

Yaygın ----> widespread

Er geç ----> sooner or later

Er geç okulu bitireceksin ----> Sooner or later you will finish the school.

Sanmıyorum ----> I dont think so.

                         I dont suppose so.

Emeksiz yemek olmaz ----> [literarly " No hardship no food" ] which means "No pain no gain."

Hatasız kul olmaz [saying] ----->  There is nobody that is faultless, Everbody make mistakes.

tek kişilik yatak -----> single bed

klimalı oda ----------> room with aircondition

klima bozuk ---------> aircondition is broken [not working]

kahvaltı dahil -------->  breakfast included

bahşiş vermek --------> to give tip

hayırlı olsun -----------> this phraise is said to someone who has just bought new car,house,things etc..or who has just married,engaged,promoted at his job.

Hayırlı olsun, tebrikler ---> May it be good to you, congratulations !

Duydum ki evlenmişsin, tebrikler hayırlı olsun ---->  I heard that you got married, Congratulations !

iyi şanslar -----> good luck

iyi tatiller-------> have a good holiday

Hangi şehir ? = which city ?

İstanbul´un neresindensin ? = Where are you from in Istanbul ?

Ne zamandan beri İstanbul´da yaşıyorsun ? -----> How long have you been living in İstanbul ?

İstanbul´un her yerini gezdin mi ? ----> Have you been everywhere in İstanbul ?

Bu , İstanbul´a üçüncü gelişim -------> This is my third coming [visit] to İstanbul.

Istanbul´da en beğendiğin yerler neresi ? ---> What places you like most in İstanbul ?

beğenmek ------> to like

Bu kazağı çok beğendim ------> I like this jumper alot.

eğlence = entertainment,fun,party

eğlenmek = to have fun

Dün gece partide eğlendin mi ? ------> did you have a fun at the party last night ?

hoş zaman geçirmek -----------> to have a lovely [nice] time

Onlarla geçen sene hoş bir zaman geçirdik -----> we had a lovely time with them last year.

Uzun lafın kısası ------> moral of the story

Takım tutmak --------> to support a team

Hangi takımı tutuyorsun ? ----> which team do you sport ?

Tutmak ---->  to hold

Kolundan tuttum ---> I held her arm.

Tutmak-----> to catch

Kaleci topu tuttu ------> The goalkeeper caught the ball

Dilek tutmak ----> make a wish

Gökyüzüne bakarak bir dilek tuttu ----> He/She made a wish by looking up the sky.

Ev tutmak -------> to rent a house

Yeni bir ev tuttum, bu hafta taşınacağım.---> I have rented a new house. I will move in there this week.

Göz önünde tutmak [idiom] ---> to consider

Bunları da göz önünde tutmalısın----> You should consider these as well.

Ne kadar tuttu ? ------> How much it came up to ? How much total ?

Alışveriş ne kadar tuttu ? ----> How much the shopping came up to ? How much did shopping came total ?

Attı tuttu -----> He made up something but he got it right., 

                        He guessed something and he got it right.

Sınavda çoğu soruyu attı ama tuttu -----> He guessed most of questions in the exam but he got them right.

Atma -----> Dont make up things. Stop guessing without knowing.

Atıyor -----> He is just saying things that are not true.. He is saying things without knowing.

Hava bugün güneşli -------> The weather is sunny today.

Hava bugün kapalı ---------> [The weather is closed today] which means " the weather is cloudy today.

Hava bugün bulutlu ---------> The weather is cloudy today.

Hava bugün rüzgarlı --------->  The weather is windy today.

Hava bugün açık -------------> [ literally "the weather is open today"] which means " the weather is clear today "

Hava bugün soguk-------------> The weather is cold today.

Hava bugün sıcak---------------> The weather is hot [warm] today.

ikram etmek = to offer

Bana çay ikram ettiler ---->  They offered me tea.

ısmarlamak = to buy something for someone as a treat

Sana kahve ısmarlayabilir miyim ?------> can I buy you a coffee  ?

çayın nasıl olsun ? ----> how do you like your tea ?

demli çay -----> strong tea

açık çay -------> mild tea [not strong]

Okuyacağım kitap -----> The book which I am going to read.

İçeceğim çay ---------->  The tea which I am going to drink

İzleyeceğim program ----> The [tv] proggramme which I am going to watch.

Gideceğim yer -----------> The place which I am going to go.

The stem of the verb + acak/ecek  + Possessive ending

       Git                   +    ecek       +        im        -----> gidecekim---> gideceğim ["k" changes into soft g]

Yürüyerek geldim -----> [literally " I came by walking] which means " I came on foot "

Otobüsle geldim -------> I came by bus  -----> Otobüs + ile ---->  Otobüsle

Trenle geldim ----------> I came by train  ---> Tren + ile ---> Trenle

Uçakla geldim ----------> I came by plane ----> Uçak + ile ---> Uçakla

 

- erek, arak---> this suffix also mean just - ing

Gülerek geldi ---> He/She came smiling.

Ağlayarak gitti ----> She/He left crying.
