Nice to have read Faruks explanation, I always thought it was a secret way to force people to be a little silent in the bus.  Here in the Netherlands its not prohibited and sometimes it really drives me crazy.
Tamikidadkika, its weird in the sense that I, for one, have not seen such a rule in any country at any type of bus yet. But I´m really glad it exists, think of only the tourincar companies, if you travel 10 hours in bus and people are allowed to make calls (like in Rahathat, though people actually dont use their phones much there).
Never thought there was a real reason behind it! Generally I switch it off,other times when I need specific directions or expcet a big news I turn it silent. In Ãzmir they are rather strict about it, you get ugly looks from elderly people.
As for the color of the buses, all buses in Ãzmir are red basically and it is all forbidden in them. Some are soo old that I wonder if they are modern enough to have ABS
