I didnt read Caliptrix´ posts when I was writing mine, so when I looked back I came to the conclusion he is right, and therefore have deleted my own message, sorry for the inconvenience. Can we please go back to the topic? You can discuss these further ofcourse, but please open a seperate thread to share your thoughts.

Thank you.

Quoting WarTrain

As neither Sui or I are Kurdish, perhaps some of our Kurdish members could clarify the situation.

Do you feel discriminated against?

Do you feel the police are disrespectful or abusive to you?

Do you every feel uneasy in your day to day life, because of your race?

If there are any Kurdish turks left on this site (who have not been chased away by name calling) please let us know

I can answer these for Kadir, who is born out of a Zaza father and a Kurmanci mother.

1. No.

2. No.

3. No.

It depends on what chances in life you get from the place you came from. Kadir is studying medicines and nobody ever asked him if he was Turkish or not. He had the same chances and rights for education as any other citizen/Turk in Turkey. But just as Kurdish girls in villages dont really go to school/university, neither do their Turkish village counterparts. In Turkey your rights are not presented to you on a silver platter, you have to reach out for them. And this counts for Turks as well. It is easy talk for Turks in big cities, but their fellow citizins in villages do not have any more chance at a lifeperspective as Kurdish ones.

I am not saying there is no discrimination because I believe there is quite some discrimination (not to mention discrimination of PKK towards Kurds who do not support them, as happend in my boyfriends family), but in Turkey generally life is what you make it: Kadirs parents decided to leave Diyarbakýr and move to Ankara in order to give their children a better chance at education. Any other Kurdish or Turkish family in Diyarbakýr (atthat time) could have decided that as well. And they have, if education was something important in their families at that time.

I agree with Meltem that there arent much pure Turks in Turkey left, and then we could even discuss about what a pure Turk is.. I also agree that it is normal not to mention your nationality. Actually nobody introduces himself that way   There is discrimination against Kurds, but as citizens of Turkey they have the same rights as all other inhabitants, and they can achieve the same things as well. But it has to do with choices and circumstances.

(Obviously this is not a closing-answer, it is only 1 case of a good background. I merely wanted to point out that some discrimination about education-job is not true in many cases. Ýncidents in the past have shown us lots about discrimination. And the police in turkey is ´famous´ for being abusive anyway. Oh well this was my addition. It is too easy to just say they are discriminated because they are Kurds and to say that they do not have the same rights)

 Hello Rury,

There are no ´times´ at which classes are given. The lessons work as follows: lessons are posted in the Turkish Classes section of the website. There you can log in any time you want and study on your lesson. You can ask questions in the forums that belong to your class, and your teacher will answer when he/she is logged in as well. After you have studied on your class and have answers to your questions, you can make your homeworkassignments and add them on the website, where the teacher will evaluate your work. So you can study and do homework in your own free time

After living for a year in an appartment in Ýzmir with one of the most stunning views of the city (the bay, the other side of the city at the other side of the sea, most enchanting at nights with all its lights, a forest at the other side and a pretty wide panorama of most of the other central city quarters), I have always said I would even live in a tent if I get to enjoy that view everyday.. maybe a little overstatement, but really, who needs a big villa with too many rooms for too little (useful!) stuff, if you can live simple but surrounded by beauty when you wake up and go to bed. Even putting trash outside the building was generally nice business, because of the children playing around, the flowers around the building and the view and smell of the sea!

In the Netherlands mainly debit cards are used during shopping. Creditcards are obviously used, especially for big purchases or purchasing online (planetickets ) but much harder to obtain than in Turkey and people generally own 1 or 2 creditcards, not 5 or 6 as I have frequently seen in Turkey. The taksit-business as you see in turkey (take the product home and pay in monthly terms) isnt as well ´developed´ as in Turkey, nor used much. You see it coming up these days, on big products, but in Turkey virtually everything can be bought in terms. I hope our system never gets that far because I think it is dangerous to spend money that you dont ´have´.

Doesn´t ´sanýrým´ also mean ´I suppose´?

 Evet, sanýrým

Though I think I would use that more for ´I think / I guess´ . Not too sure though.

Just click on the button ´private message´ below a member´s nickname in the forum. Or, when you view someone profile, you can also choose to send a private message.

I could try to translate. Just press the button ´private message´ below my nickname in this post, and automatically a screen where you can write your message to me will be opened. Good luck.
