Some special uses of possesive

The possesive marker is used when we are talking about physical properties and discomforts whereas in English you would say ; " I have a headache", in Turkish we say " my head is aching with possesive structure.

some examples ;

[Benim] Başım dönüyor  ---> I feel dizzy.

[ Literally ; My head is turning]

[Senin] Dişin mi ağrıyor  ? --> Do you have a toothache ?

 [ Literally ; Is your tooth aching ? ]

[Onun ] Karnı ağrıyor.----> He has a stomach ache.

[Literally ; His stomach is aching ]

Ayşe´nin boğazı ağrıyor ----> Ayşe has sore throat.

[ Literally ; Ayşe´s throat is aching ]

Ali´nin karnı tok. ----> Ali is full.

[ Literally ; Ali´s stomach is full]

p-b alteration

Another sound change is seen in p-ending words, but in a less systematic way.

Multisyllabic alternating

kitap ---> kitabı

şarap -----> şarabı

sebep ----> sebeb

Note that p-b alternating occurs in some monosyllabic words and it does not occur in some others. We just need to know them.

Monosyllabic alternating

kap ---> kabı

kalp ---> kalbi

Monosyllabic non-alternating

top ----> topu

hap ---> hapı

sap ---> sapı

kamp ---> kampı

g ---> ğ  alteration

The "ğ" alteration is seen in some multisyllabic "g "ending words as well.

Psikolog  becomes  Psikoloğ

Nörolog  becomes Nöroloğ

Katalog  becomes  Kataloğ

with accusative case.

Note that it is NOT seen in all g-ending multisyllabic words. It is not seen in monosyllabic g-ending words either.

Example for Multısyllabıc non-alternating word ;

Miting ----> Miting
