I think there were better songs than the turkish but it was by far the best song of those who's going to the finals. I don't believe that it was a fair vote, the east european and non-european countries all (more or less) vote for their neighbours no matter the quality of the song. That became obvious yesterday

I have to say.. I think Kenan Doğulus song sucks.. turkey has such beautiful melodies in the folksongs, such beautiful powerful voices, such beautiful eastern instruments which, if you ask me, are rather successfull combined with modern music technology. They would come much further had they chosen a more Turkish song.

I heard the Greeks stole parts of the Turkish song, but I think they made it better.. Such a pity because Kenan Doğulu may not be the worlds best singer, but he has pretty good lyrics, wish he had used that knowledge for a more interesting song But we will see who is gonna win.

Edited: I think Turkish dancing was really nice though, especially in the 'Turkish' break!

I'm listening (but not watching) and so far I haven't heard anything special - but many singers out of tune. I am curious for the song from Turkey.

İ think Russian song was the nicest one till now.. But it looks like its going from bad to worse. Suddenly İm wondering why Dutch song didnt get through, it wouldnt look as bad between all these songs after all

Quoting vineyards:

Eurosvision deserves a credit here. After all they have been exceptionally consistent in providing such awful quality but still managing to appeal to the masses.

Each year I keep saying I will only watch the 'summary' at the end, of all the songs shortly.. but somehow boreddom always finds me at the night of the Eurovision

it seems that eurovision come to end.I have watched voting and results and noticed I can guess who will get best point to others, for example all balkans countries support each other like scandinavians, old soviet countries...

it is not exciting contest and funny...hah

It was SO obvious to see that almost everyone gives the highest votes for their neighbour countries, no matter the quality of the songs. I think it has been really corrupted this year.

And what the heck is going on with Ukraine being number two? That song was just awful Well I could go on ranting but I won't, bottom line is there were many bad songs this year. I didn't vote because I didn't vote because there weren't any songs I liked enough to spend 20 kuruş on it

There was a few songs in the semifinals which I believe were far better than the highest ranked songs...too bad for them.

I am not so sure it's only about sentimental feelings of ex-countries... it's more the same taste for certain type of music. Like Greece and Cyprus, or Bosnia and Herzegovina and Turkey. And we should count diaspora as well.

Trudy is right, there are much better songs and singers in Türkiye…

No because eg. Greece and Cyprus almost ALWAYS give eachother 12 points and they would never dream of giving Turkey high points. I think genres have been spread pretty much, there's little or no pattern when it comes to that.

But I always like when the countries have some cultural referances like Deli_kizin mentioned earlier. Cyprus sang in french this year, what's the point of that? And there was also another country which partly sang (or counted, rather) in german...come on ya! I think it's a shame everyone's gone so mainstream, there's almost no distinction. Any song could have been from any country, pretty much. There's so few countries who sing in their own language, why?

Kenan Dogulu's song was not bad at all... better than many other songs.

And when we are at guys in skirts, I just must quote our winner Marija Å erifović:

"It's time for singers to be valued by how they sing, and not by how they look like."

Thanks again in the name of my country. And I wonder as well as you... maybe they think that funny effect is going to help them win.

Well, I am happy because my country won... but as I would like this thread to remain connected with Turkey, I appeal to our Turkish friends to help... I would like to post the lyrics with English translation for those who liked the poem (I got a request already), but I would like to see the song in Turkish here as well. Thanks to all friends!

Molitva

Ni oka da sklopim,
postelja prazna tera san,
a život se topi
i nestaje brzo, k'o dlanom o dlan.
K'o razum da gubim,
jer stvarnost i ne primećujem,
još uvek te ljubim,
još uvek ti slepo verujem.

K'o luda, ne znam kuda,
ljubavi se nove bojim,
a dane, žive rane,
više ne brojim...

Molitva, kao žar na mojim usnama je,
molitva, mesto reči samo ime tvoje.

Nebo zna, kao ja,
koliko puta sam ponovila,
to nebo zna, baš kao ja,
da je ime tvoje moja jedina
molitva.
Al Bogu ne mogu
lagati sve dok se molim,
a lažem ako kažem
da te ne volim...

Prayer

I can't even shut my eyes,
the empty bad is driving the sleep away,
and the life is melting
and dissapearing quickly, in no time.
It's like I am losing my mind,
for I even don't notice the reality,
still I am loving you,
still I am blindly believing you.

Like being mad, I don't know whereto,
I am afraid of a new love,
and the days, my live wounds,
I even don't count them anymore...

A prayer, it's like an ember on my lips,
A prayer, it's your name only instead of words.

The heaven knows, as well as me,
how many times I have repeated,
The heaven knows it, just as well as me,
that your name is the only
prayer of mine.
But I can't lie to God
all the time while I'm praying,
and I lie if I say
that I am not loving you...

P.S. Though it's already connected with Turkey in a way... Marija's forename is of the Turkish origin.

I don't want to disappoint you Culday, but the 12 points from Holland are mostly given by members of the large Turkish community we have here. Every year they check who voted by sms/phone and for what country.

Just read the lyrics. Really nice It would be nice if they would put the subtitles in English, or every country for itself in their native language. Though the magic of music might be found just in the voice and instruments, words can make the impact of a song so much stronger. A beautiful song can be forgotten quickly when the words arent worth remembering, whereas an awful song may be remembered forever because of the beauty in its words. I heard they already have this system in England, they dont have in Türkiye, neither in Holland (or do they this year?)

Dua

Gözlerimi bile kapatamıyorum,
boş yatak uykuyu başka yerlere götürüyor,
ve hayat eriyip gidiyor,
çok çabuk kayboluyor, kısa zaman içinde.
Hafızamı kaybeder gibi,
gerçeklerden bile haberdar değilim,
seni hala seviyorum,

Deli gibiyim, nereye gitmeli bilmiyorum.
Yeni bir aşk korkutuyor beni,
Ve günler, yaşayan yaralarım,
Onları sayamıyorum bile artık...

Bir dua, kor ateş gibi dudaklarımda,
Bir dua, kelimeler yerine sadece senin ismin.

Tanrı da biliyor benim bildiğimi,
Kaç kere tekrarladığımı,
Tanrı da biliyor tamı tamına benim bildiğimi,
ki senin ismin
tek duamdır benim.
Ama Tanrıya yalan söyleyemem ki
Bütün bu duaları ederken,
Ve yalan söylemiş olurum
Eğer seni sevmediğimi söylersem...

I must say that I'm ashamed of the video of Poland (not that the song is any better lol ). Why do I feel that watching these Eurovision videos is like watching porn??? WTF is wrong with us! These songs have nothing to do with individual cultures, they are a shame.

It's sad though that she chose to dress like a man, obviously because the idea of female beauty is so sickly defined that she would probably be criticized about her weight.
It reminds me of the women from countries in which they are oppressed that say that they wish they were born men . It's really sad what kind of world we've created again... .

Ok, I also like Iceland . Great song...

Iceland: Eiríkur Hauksson - Valentine Lost

I'll let the music play while love lies softly bleeding
In heavy hands on shadowlands
As thunder clouds roll in, sunset is receding
No summer wine, no Valentine

A tiger trapped inside a cage
An actor on an empty stage
Come see the show
Rock n' roll can heal your soul
When broken hearts lose all control

Some rivers still run dry and jungles burn to embers
Gold autumn days must fade to grey
There is a reason why a haunted man remembers
One frozen night, his darkest day

A tiger trapped inside a cage
An actor on an empty stage
Come see the show
Rock n' roll will heal your soul
When broken hearts lose all control

Passion killed by acid rain
A rollercoaster in my brain
But, how would you know
In your satin, silk and lace
Another time, another place

A tiger trapped inside a cage
An actor on an empty stage
Come see the show
Rock n' roll will heal your soul
When broken hearts lose all control

A love let loose and painted black
A train stuck on a broken track
I'll let it go
Rock n' roll has healed my soul
The stage is set, on with the show

Actually I read in the paper this morning that this is her style and it is pure speculation about her sexuality. She has been given a hard time because of her parents divorce. If an artist wants to dress a certain way and create their own style, it is surely up to them - I prefer her style to that of the Ukraine offering or the embarassing Moldova singer who was nearly displaying her........... and looked like something from a sex shop window - well leave it at that

I think it's nobody's fault, it's just her choice to dress like that. You don't have to show off your body or to be provocative to dress in women clothes. And ofcourse when someone is overweight, she shouldn't wear mini skirts or the clothes that do not go with her body, I think it's not just about the female beauty but it seems really funny. And if she wants to dress this kind of dress, she could try to lose some weight, also over weight is not a healthy thing, and as you know in natural selection the healthy females are found attractive, so this female beauty is not a bullshit.
She could have been in a more female way.this way in her men dresses and short hair I think she's more criticized, but I think she doesn'T bother about it since she chose to dress like a man. She could be what she wants, but I don't accept that it's the fault of someone.
And also, I don't understand why you find it sad. According to you, a man or a woman cloth do not exist. We have defined what a woman cloth is, so you should have found it more proper that she dresses like men dresses, it's perfect equality. She'S not the victim of the men choices and desires. she's not a stupid girl!

My belated congratulations to Serbia and a big thanks to Duda for the english translation.
I found the song nice (so much better from the other entries) and I loved the fact that people looked behind her strange (maybe ugly) looks and valued the song.

Most of the songs were terrible and the singers' outfits even worse. It looked like a big circus to me

As for the greek song (or the turkish- after all they were so alike) I think both were terrible. I haven't read the posts above to see other people's views, but I can't help but feeling ashamed for the greek choice . I don't blame the singer. This is his style and this is the music he can do. I blame the greek people for voting for this song though. But now that I think about it, the other songs that were competing with this one were twice as bad, so I really don't know whom to blame. Maybe myself for watching this contest? Hmmmmm....

In fact, all of us in Serbia were not a little scared before the Eurovisian contest... I've heard many people saying (including me): "Oh, please, just not let Marija's designer force her to put on a dress..." She just doesn't have a figure for that (not only overweight), and it's not her style (always in trousers and T-shirts), so it wouldn't be her... But we were amazed with the styling of her co-singers. Those girls were so uniformly pretty, and intentionally "Barbie-like" (or Farah Fawcett-like, whatever) that they looked almost like a piece of a decoration, or a landscape, and put Marija's figure in the first plan, she really seemed powerful. And really, for me it's a kind of proof that personality is stronger than beauty, that's what the stylists wanted and managed to point out.

And thanks again, I am surprised by how many people here liked the song... Ohhhh, I am thanking as it was me who won... lol ...but I was touched by what catwoman said about Serbian language... not that many people pay attention to such things.

P.S. I would congratulate to Bulgaria and Romania from my side... No one mentioned them, but Bulgarian singer was amazing in her performance of that ethno-motif, and Romania had 6 excellent singers and so cheerful melody.

Quoting libralady:

Actually I read in the paper this morning that this is her style and it is pure speculation about her sexuality. She has been given a hard time because of her parents divorce. If an artist wants to dress a certain way and create their own style, it is surely up to them - I prefer her style to that of the Ukraine offering or the embarassing Moldova singer who was nearly displaying her........... and looked like something from a sex shop window - well leave it at that

Oh no, I absolutely agree with you libralady. I prefer her outfit (except for her shoes ) MUCH more then the other "sex shop" embarrassments. I was just speculating earlier as to why she chose to dress like this, not knowing anything about her. I think that she's beautiful, maybe not the most perfect figure, but that doesn't matter.

eurovision is a crappy contest!
less proffessionalism - more scandalism!
a geo-political contest, not music.
the eastern block states have granted each other the points, esp. post-soviets republics. and of course germany traditionally voted for turkey

serbia wasnt bad actually, thank God ukraine didnt win!
i mostly liked guys from latvia, professionals!
though i had fun watching france, sweden and ukraine!
oh, i forgot to add that funny guys from romania werre really super cool!
oh, one more thing, hehehe brits were flying and flying so hard that they landed on the 2nd from the bottom!

I don't find anything similar other than the "shake it" part in the two songs.
Greek's song is in the taste of Ricky Martin while Kenan's song has more hip hop tunes.

macho style?!!! I bet you haven't seen any macho yet! They are far from being a macho. Real machos do not dance like that, don't you know?
And I think the dancers were esthetic. How would they dance, covered from head to toe?

mltm is right femme, the turkish guy is definitely NOT a macho! lol though he has his harem on stage (very aesthetic one too lol ). the greek one is a macho though and therefore he has a modern style harem - a porn show (with very healthy looking women mltm, you must agree with me for once ).
