my new one for today , ( its a little long , i hope marion or handsome will translate it soon )
SKY
O orada, hep seni seyrediyor olacak!
Biliyorum birtanem zor ayri olmamiz,
Kaldirmak icin aradan koca engelleri,
Gel ,bu askin alevinde , bedenlerimizi yakalim...

Quoting AEnigma III: When you are old - William Butler Yeats
When you are old and grey and full of sleep,
And nodding by the fire, take down this book,
And slowly read, and dream of the soft look
Your eyes had once, and of their shadows deep;
How many loved your moments of glad grace,
And loved your beauty with love false or true,
But one man loved the pilgrim Soul in you,
And loved the sorrows of your changing face;
And bending down beside the glowing bars,
Murmur, a little sadly, how Love fled
And paced upon the mountains overhead
And hid his face amid a crowd of stars. |
I was having a bath and reading a poetry book (Yeats-selected poems/pan classics- an old and thin book)
And suddenly I saw this poem
and thought 'phew...this is amazing'.
Of course, then I realized, it was not the first time I read it..
It was here!! from Aenigma...( a late thanks to her!!)
Anyway, lets finish this with a quote about poetry:
Poetry is when an emotion has found its thought and the thought has found words.
Robert Frost

you look again at the your favorite shining star tonight.
Even the clouds cover the sky,
You, despite the clouds, look at that misty night again.
You star will always be watching you up there
Even you dont see it, even if its light does not reflect on your face
Your star will always want to see, even if the clouds may cover the entire universe.
It can not live without seeing your magnificent eyes.
I know my only one, it is hard to be apart.
I am your star, you are my earth
I am not sure if we meet, you never know my sea-eyed
I may take the risk of burning, being destroyed, and one night, suddenly,I may shoot from the sky
And watch desperately your everlasting, melancholic nights
Maybe I just dream of coming together, I just wait for you there..
what if this separation did not exist for us
what if you could see my eyes shining with your love
What if you were to hold my hands, thightly
I know, this dream does not end here, my longing for you does not end.
Now, close your eyes and daydream of me.
Take me into your days and months which have passed without me
Take me, so that I will be able to take your sorrows and saddness from you(r wearied body)
Then, you become me and I become you.
In order to remove these huge barricades
Come, we burn our bodies in the flame of this love.
My try Cenk.

SPITTING IT OUT-Zong Fengming
Â--on the concern that my friends feel for me
I'm a silkworm, I just expectorate,
Cheer for the truth, nudge justice along, And hope to leave some pure strands behind.
But I'm a free moth, too.
Broken out of the cocoon, like a Buddha-spirit Floating aloft, untouched, untouchable.
For Turkish friends:
LÂFIMI SAKINMADAN-translation Halil Berktay
-- dostlarimin, benim için
tasidigi endiselere dair
Ben bir ipekböcegiyim, ipegimi salmaktir bütün yaptigim,
Ve gerçegi alkislamak, adaleti biraz ittirmek arkadan,
Ve umarim, geride bazi katiksiz iplikler birakmak.
Ama özgür bir kelebegim ayni zamanda.
Kozasindan çikmis, Buddha’nin ruhu gibi,
Gökte süzülen, dokunulmaz, dokunulmamis.
And another quote:
Poetry is man's rebellion against being what he is. James Branch Cabell

Dedication
You whom I could not save
Listen to me.
Try to understand this simple speech as I would be ashamed of another.
I swear, there is in me no wizardry of words.
I speak to you with silence like a cloud or a tree.
What strengthened me, for you was lethal.
You mixed up farewell to an epoch with the beginning of a new one,
Inspiration of hatred with lyrical beauty,
Blind force with accomplished shape.
Here is the valley of shallow Polish rivers. And an immense bridge
Going into white fog. Here is a broken city,
And the wind throws the screams of gulls on your grave
When I am talking with you.
What is poetry which does not save
Nations or people?
A connivance with official lies,
A song of drunkards whose throats will be cut in a moment,
Readings for sophomore girls.
That I wanted good poetry without knowing it,
That I discovered, late, its salutary aim,
In this and only this I find salvation.
They used to pour millet on graves or poppy seeds
To feed the dead who would come disguised as birds.
I put this book here for you, who once lived
So that you should visit us no more.
Czeslaw Milosz
