Well...didnt read all of the posts here, however allow me to let me list some of my turkish friends here:
Selcuk, Alperen, Berkan, Emre, Arda, Omer, Gulcan, Lale, Izmihan, Mahmutcan, Alpercan, Esen....
I would say the contracted names like Alpercan and Mahmutcan carry quite some beautiness...

I think how a name as a word sounds shouldn't have the priority to pick it up. It may sound nice, but doesn't have a nice meaning or a meaning at all.
For example; I wouldn't name my son "çelik"(= steel).
I have a female student whose name is "Tülgin". When I asked her what it meant. She told me that it was the blending of his mother's name's first syllable and his father's name's second syllable. (Betül + Engin).
And also one of my students told me that one of her friend's name was "Bertaç". His mother named him "Bertaç" (the blending of "Berat" and "Sertaç") as she couldn't decide to name his son whether "Berat" or "Sertaç". She decided on "Bertaç" finally.
If you can't decide on a certain name you can blend two or more than two names.
You can see the meanings of Turkish names at the below link.

I would. OK OK. I understand it's a matter of personal taste. "Çelik" sounds nice to me as a name and I like its meaning too just as I like "Demir" (iron).

They are all fine with me (my opinion). When you translate them into, say, English, they may sound unusual but they all sound natural in Turkish.
