...Okay, let´s talk more about rain... Or, we could get some info perhaps of our Turkish friends here who might get a bit more insight into what he´s charged with? I heard he was charged by Turkey for trying to "white-wash" money in Turkey, which he got with his women-abusing illegal practices in Holland. He´s also charged with threatening people in Turkey. Is this news in Turkey, in the papers or anything?

He is a common petty criminal (adi suçlu?), a pimp who supposedly beats and exploits women and that wouldn´t get him in the papers. Maybe a small report in the 3rd page or somehing. I think Dutch media emphasizes this because they let him out and because he poses a threat to tourists.

My concern is, why "Baran" when there is "Yağmur"? This is very sneaky and dangerous cultural reconstruction we are being put through :S

Yağmur is used by Turks. I know some with this name.

Yaghmur Khan is also an historic name.

I vaugely remember the "Yaghmur Khan" name in a scientific publication as the name of someone from Pakistan. So I guess the name is also used in Pakistan/Afganistan.

If you google Şaban Baran (surely the meaning of his name or where it comes from is totally irrelevant) you will find several reports of him in the Turkish press - referring to him as a ´Prostitution Baron´. Obviously I can´t understand them all but they are definitely linking him to crimes against women.

I guess an attempt to kill someone is also in Turkey not categorised as ´petty´......

The jail let him out for a short leave, to see the birth of his child (what a bunch of idiots!)

The poor child having this man as a father, but i am sure  this child was exploited even before it was born. Let hope this man get his just desserts and the child never find out what an evil man their father is.
