Is the beach near my holiday resort?

plaja benim tatilyeri yakında mı?

--------------------------------------

You done good ! but little bit correction needed.

Plaj benim tatil yerime yakın mı ?    OR ;

Plaj benim tatil yerimin yakınında mı ?

--------------------------------------------------------------

tatil yeri --> two seperate words --> holiday place

[benim] tatil yerim --> my holiday place

tatil yerim + e [dative case] ---> to my holiday place

yakın mı ? ---> is [it] near ?

I´d like to go near the south coast.

Güney kıyısında yakındanın gitmek seviyorum

----------------------------------------------------------

Güney sahiline yakın bir yere gitmek istiyorum.

[Literally ;  I´d like to go somewhere near the south coast]

-e yakın = near to

-----------------------------------------------------------------

Ankara´ya yakın bir yere gitmek istiyorum. ---> I´d like to go [somewhere] near Ankara.

My attempt, but wait for a Turk to correct or confirm

Neyle oraya gidebilirim?

(If you are asking about which transport you need to catch, by bus/taxi/boat/walking)

How (with what / by what means/transport) can I get to there?

Ne (what) + ile (with) = neyle (with what/ how)

O (that) + ra (place) + y (buffer) + a (to) = oraya (to that place/ to there)

git (go) + ebil (ability to/can) + ir (simple tense) + im (I/first person) = gidebilirim

Or alternatively "Oraya nasıl gidebilirim ? "

You are right, hocam, nasıl also used in place of neyle, but I think it will be useful for a learner if we explain the difference between these two question words.

If you are asking about the way to some place:

Oraya nasıl gidebilirim? ( lit. How can I go there? ) => can you tell me the way to there? What route should I take to get there?

"If you are asking about which transport you need to catch":

Oraya neyle gidebilirim? ( lit. By what can I go there? )

How much is the trip?

Seyahat ,Ne kadar?

I´m not sure if your answer is correct or not.

Maybe it needs something more for "the" trip

Yolculuğu ne kadar?

Yolculuk (trip) + u (the) = yolculuğu (k mutates to ğ

Yolculuğun fiyatı ne kadar?

Yolculuğun fiyatı ne?

Seyahati ne kadar?

(I notice that seyahati does not follow normal vowel harmony rules)

This previous post was also interesting to me.

Would any Turks like to comment if they agree with the differences about the Turkish words for ´trip´

Quote:AlfaF

- Yolculuk : travelling (generally for a defined purpose)
- Seyahat: An excursion, involving far destinations
- Gezi: a local excursion
- Sefer: each one of a fixed route round trips
- Mesafe: distance

Quote:ımpulse

Yolculuk and seyahat are interchageable. They both mean the same thing which is; Going to generally a far place with the aim of work, research, investigation and entertainment. Avrupa yolculuğu, İş yolculuğu. Going to or returning back from a place with a vehicle.

Bu sıcakta otobüsle yolculuk / seyahat etmek beni çok yordu. Going to a jurney with the bus in the hot weather tire me up.

Gezi: Has the meaning of "yolculuk" and "seyahat". Avrupa gezisi, iş gezisi. This meaning is the same with "yolculuk" and "seyahat" But however "gezi, yolculuk and seyahat" have the same dictionary meaning, in everyday language "gezi" generally describes a short trip to a place with the aim of entertainment. And this word also describes a kind of motorboat for sea trip. And it´s called "Gezi motoru". And also gezi describes a sea trip especially with the touristic aim. Bugün bir tekne gezisine gidiyoruz : Today we are going to a boat trip.

Sefer: This word is especially pertaining to the army. The military operations done abroad is called "sefer". And this word has also a time, occasion meaning. bu sefer: this time; üç sefer:three times.

Mesafe : This is a total differnt word. It means distance, space, interval. İngiltere ile Türkiye arasındaki mesafe nedir /ne kadar? What is the distance between England and Turkey?

Do you agree? Smile

Henry you cant make a word definite always with adding ı/i/u/ü suffix. Because verb also must allow the suffix.

Arabayı kim sürüyor? Who drives the car? (Here it is okay)

Yolculuğu ne kadar? This is wrong because u here can only be a possesive suffix. You need another noun here.

İstanbul yolculuğu ne kadar? How much is the İstanbul trip?

Yolculuğu yaptın mı? Did you do the trip? You see here it is definite because verb also allows it to be definite.

The main thing to know here is you can not make a subject definite with adding ı/i/u/ü. If you add this sufix subject will either transform to an object or it will need another noun and the suffix will function  as it is a possesive suffix or it will not mean anything.

Nifritity , I like your determination and willingness on learning Turkish. Aferin Sana, Carry on like this

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I haven´t been there before.

önce ben orayada yoktım.

Daha önce orada bulunmadım.

Daha önce = before

Orada = there

bulunmak = in this case ,to be in somewhere especially for people .

note : dont mix this with "bulunmak = passive form of to be found"

bul + un [passive] + mak = to be found

bulun + ma [negative] + dı [past] + m [person]

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ankara´da hiç bulundun mu ? ---> Have you ever been to Ankara ?

in some cases "bulunmak" is used as "to live" ;

Mısır´da beş ay bulundum ---> I lived in Egypt for 5 months. [ I have been to Egypt for 5 months.]

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

bulunmak is also used as to own, to have ;

[shopkeeper says to the customer]

Bizde zeytin bulunmaz --> We dont have olives.

Sizde ekmek bulunur mu ? ---> Do you have bread ? [Do you sell bread ? ]

Sizde tost bulunur mu ? ---> Do you make toast ?

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

çok teşekkürler Tunci
