Hello!

I would like to know the meaning and possible uses of phrases like: ne yapsam or ne söylesem. Because I´m not sure whether they ask "what (would happen) if I do/say ... ?" or perhaps "if I do WHAT (something happens)?" (Like asking what should I do for something to happend).

Could you give me some examples of using these forms, with translations?

my try:

 eğer böyle söylesem, ne olaçak: if I say so what will happen?

 eğer böyle yapsam, ne söyleceler : if I do so what would they say?

boyle olarak ne yapar mıyım: what do I do to have it happen?

I have problems with understand if ne stands just before -sam/-sem verb.

That form can be translated as "No matter what " , "whatever"

Ne + Verb stem + sa/se + person   

Ne  yapsan yerim ---> I eat [ I´ll eat] no matter what you make [cook]

                                         I eat [ I´ll eat]  whatever you make [cook]

I found a nice one:

Ne yapsam hata oluyor. ´Pardon me for breathing.´ (lit. ´Whatever I do turns out wrong.´ )

A further question: can the same structure be used with other question words, like ´whenever´, ´whatever for´, ´where ever´ and so on?

And what if question words other than "ne": ne zaman, nerede are used with the condictional, does it always make the meaning of English -ever words (whenever, wherever...)?

For example the first line from the song "İstanbul´da Sonbahar":

Mevsim rüzgarları ne zaman eserse

Is it: "Whenever the season´s winds blow"?

That sentence of yours is correct.

Ne zaman İstanbul´a gitsem ,Ayasofya´yı ziyaret ederim --> Whenever I go to İstanbul,I visit Ayasofia.

Onunla ne zaman konuşsam hayatından şikayet ediyor ---> Whenever I talk to him/her, she/he complains about his/her life.

Ne zaman film izlesem uykum geliyor --> Whenever I watch a film, I feel sleepy.

Ne sınıfta gürültü yapsam öğretmen bana kızıyor ---> Whenever I make noise in the class,the teacher tells me off.

Nasıl giderseniz gidin 5 saatinizi alır ---> However you travel ,it will take you 5 hours.

Ne kadar çok yerse yesin hiç kilo almaz ---> However much he eats, he never gets fat.

Ne kadar çok yürürsem yürüyeyim kilo veremiyorum --> However much I walk, I cant lose weight.

Ne kadar zengin olurlarsa olsunlar hep daha çok isterler ---> However rich they are , they always want more.

There is a big difference here. It has to be about real and unreal conditions.

But so good you gave these examples. If you try to google something like this you get everything but what you want.

whoever..... --> Kim + Verb stem + ırsa,irse,erse,arsa,ursa,ürse + Verb stem + sin,sın,sun,sün

                  Kim    Gel    +  irse              +             gel  + sin --> whoever comes.....

                  Kim    sor    + arsa              +             sor  + sun --> whoever asks ......

                  Kim    yüz    + erse              +            yüz + sün  --> whoever swims ....

                  Kim    oku    + arsa [a drops] +            oku + sun ---> whoever reads ....

                  Kim    öl       + ürse              +            öl   + sün ----> whoever dies......

                  Kim    kal     + ırsa                +            kal  + sın -----> whoever stays...

Kim gelirse gelsin,kapıyı aç  ---> whoever comes ,open the door.

"ise" becomes -sa, -se when connceted to a word, may be written seperately. meaning "if" in english.

gelirsem: gelir isem

yaparsam: yapar isem.

okursa: okur ise.

yazarsan: yazar isen

similarly "ile" becomes -la, -le meaning "and" or "with"

One of the function of suffix -se,sa is ;

when suffix -se,-sa is added straight onto the verb stem [ gel + se] that is more like "optative" [wishing something to happen ] ;

Ah keşke buraya gelse ---> Oh , if only she comes here.

Bugün tatil olsa ! ---> Wish it is [was] holiday today

Another function of it is used as "conditional" [hypothetical conditional ]

Sen gelsen her şey hallolur --->   Hypothetically if you come everything would be sorted out.

Whereas , with aorist marking "ir,ır,ur,ür" + se,sa

It is strict conditional meaning ---> IF YOU  DO.................IT  WILL  HAPPEN

It´s just that sometimes the difference between real and hypothetical conditions is so small that it is almost impossible for a learner to see it. At that point you just have to listen to the native and follow.

Next time I need to say w****ever I´ll just look at these fine examples. Thanks, tunci. 

How do I know when to use the additional imperative verb form after the condition in the "whatever" construction? Like this:

Ne isterseniz tamam vs Ne giyersen giy güzel duracak üstünde 

Can´t I say Ne isterseniz isteyin tamam or also Ne giyersen güzel duracak üstünde?

By the way, shouldn´t it be Ne giyersen giy güzel üstünde duracak

- with the verb at the end in proper Turkish?

Ne isterseniz tamam [olur ]

Ne isterseniz isteyin tamam [olur] ----> Correct

Ne giyersen güzel duracak üstünde? ----> Correct  [inverted sentence]

Ne giyersen  giy üstünde güzel duracak? ---> Correct

And Ne giyersen güzel üstünde duracak (without giy) would be all right?

Abla, what did you mean here, when you said there was a big difference and it being about real and unreal conditions? 

Tunci, does this mean that there is a difference for "whenever" depending on the context? In English, it has three uses, "at any random time desired", "every time that(somethng happens)..." and the 3rd one is "when the time that something happens isn´t important"

Is it verb stem + dik + personal suffix  for "anytime", leaving out the conditional -sen ?

Hmm I suppose I am just not sure how to tell when you´re using aorist tense marker for "whenever"

 "Ne yapsam, ne söylesem ?" literally means "What am I to do, what am I to say?"

As an expression, it is used in a situation where nothing you can do or say will help to solve the existing problem. It ıs an expression of being helpless, failing to do or say anything to solve the problem.

what about "yapsan" just yapsan itself, what does it mean? and thanks for explaining ne yapsam and ne soylesem, i had a trouble understanding them before.

 YAPSAN may mean,

"I wish you would do it" or "better if you would do it"......in loose translation.
